The Kota Kinabalu Line (Malay : Laluan Kota Kinabalu) is a proposed light rapid transit (LRT) system network in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, as one of the method to ease traffic congestion in the city. [1] The proposal has been considered, [2] [3] and as reported in the government website, the project was in the ground breaking process under the Kota Kinabalu development plan. [4] The current under construction project of the Aeropod rail station in Tanjung Aru also has made a provision for LRT in their plan. [5]

In early 2017, an assemblyman from Inanam Roland Chia stressed the importance of having an LRT system to solve the present traffic congestion in Kota Kinabalu which is getting worse. Proposing to the government to look at examples from other developed countries cities such as in Australia and the United Kingdom which provide rail transport on the basis of need rather than population size. [6] As a response, the state government is looking to study the proposal with the state capital mayor who claims the project must be effective and bring economic returns. [7] Following the change of government in 2018, the new federal government through Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir has stated in early 2019 that LRT will still be on the state development plan. The priority will be given first to complete the road networks in Sabah. [8] On 27 August 2019, the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has submitted a proposal to build LRT or mass rapid transit (MRT) to the federal government. The city authorities are currently waiting for budget on the project. [9]

The Kota Kinabalu Monorail is a proposed monorail line project since 2009 to be constructed in the Kota Kinabalu area by the Sabah state government. The proposals generated mixed reactions between mayor and politicians. As reported in the government website, the project was in the ground breaking process under the Kota Kinabalu development plan.

The BRT Kota Kinabalu is a bus rapid transit (BRT) project to improve bus services in the city of Kota Kinabalu. An allocation of around MYR1 billion has been provided by the Malaysian government under the 2016 Malaysian Budget to implement the project. Currently, the project is under studies between the federal and state governments and it was predicted to be finished in 2020. It has also been lauded by the Prasarana Malaysia, the government-owned company specialise in bus and light metro development, the Chief Minister of Sabah, Musa Aman and various other politicians who said they have been waited for almost 10 years.

The Aeropod is a mixed development projects comprising hotel, a retail mall, retail offices, residential suites, corporate offices and green parks in Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The projects are being done in five stages. The projects also include a provision for light rail transit (LRT) in the Kota Kinabalu metropolitan, to improve the already available rail station in Tanjung Aru.

The Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront is a mixed development projects comprising a shopping mall, hotel, city-resort home and boardwalk in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It is a waterfront revitalisation projects under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) as part of the efforts to transform Kota Kinabalu into a metropolitan city. The North Eastern Sabah Railway Line is a proposed railway line from the city of Kota Kinabalu that would connect Kudat, Sandakan and Tawau as part of the Sabah State Railway line extension plan. The plan was supported by the Malaysian federal government represented by Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai on 17 September 2015. On 21 March 2017, the study to establish the line to Kudat started, with around RM1 million being allocated.

The Tanjung Aru Eco Development is a mixed development project at Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, with the addition of resort hotels, residential areas, marinas, entertainment venues, beach clubs and dining areas. The redevelopment areas cover some 340 hectares, which will double the Tanjung Aru park's size to about 30 hectares. Part of the area would be transformed into a rainforest, intended to rejuvenate the Prince Philip Park located nearby. The refurbishment of the park would include a promenade, walking and cycling tracks and an ecology centre, along with the construction of a 133 hectares Greg Norman-designed golf course, seven hotels with 1,800 rooms and 5,000 apartment and condominium units. The project however has been met with criticisms from local conservation groups.

The Western Sabah Railway Line in Sabah, Malaysia is the name given to rail services that operate from Tanjung Aru until Tenom in the West Coast and Interior divisions under the management of Sabah State Railway. The line previously known as North Borneo Railway Line.
