Local government in Scotland comprises thirty-two local authorities, commonly referred to as Scottish councils. Each council provides public services, including education, social care, waste management, libraries and planning. Councils receive the majority of their funding from the Scottish Government, but operate independently and are accountable to their local electorates. Councils raise additional income via the Council Tax, a locally variable domestic property tax, and Business rates, a non-domestic property tax.
The Orkney Islands Council, is the local authority for Orkney, Scotland. It was established in 1975 by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 and was largely unaffected by the Scottish local government changes of the mid-1990s.
East Northamptonshire District Council in Northamptonshire, England was elected every four years. After the last boundary changes in 2007, 40 councillors were elected from 22 wards. The district was abolished in 2021, with the area becoming part of North Northamptonshire.
Elections to South Hams District Council took place on 7 May, the same day as other United Kingdom local elections and the General Election. 19 of the 20 wards were up for election, each with either 1,2 or 3 councillors to be elected. The number of seats up for election in each ward is indicated by the number in the brackets following the ward name. This was the first election with new boundary changes taking effect after the number of wards was reduced by ten and councillors by 9. The ward of Salcombe & Thurlestone was uncontested, with Conservative Party candidates Judy Pearce and Simon Wright elected. The Conservative Party increased their share of seats in the council, despite a slight decrease in votes. Meanwhile, the Green Party overtook the Liberal Democrats to become the largest opposition party.
Kintyre and the Islands is one of the eleven wards used to elect members of the Argyll and Bute Council. It elects three Councillors.
Inverclyde East is one of the seven wards used to elect members of the Inverclyde Council. It elects three Councillors.

The 2019 South Holland District Council election took place on 2 May 2019 to elect members of the South Holland District Council in England. It was held on the same day as other local elections.
Elections to The Highland Council were held on 5 May 2022, the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election used the 21 wards created under the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with 74 councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members, using the STV electoral system.
Elections to the Shetland Islands Council took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the other Scottish local government elections. Seven wards will be contested, each ward electing two to four Councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation, with 23 Councillors elected.
Elections to Comhairle nan Eilean Siar took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election will be the first to use the nine wards created under the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018 which allowed for single and dual member wards, with 29 councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 2, 3 or 4 members, using the Single Transferrable Vote electoral system, a form of proportional representation. Following a boundary review the number of wards will increase from nine to 11 while the number of councillors elected will fall from 31 to 29.
The 2022 Coventry City Council election took place on 5 May 2022. One third of councillors — 18 out of 54 — on Coventry City Council were elected. The election took place alongside other local elections across the United Kingdom.
The 2022 Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022 to elect members of Sefton Council. This was on the same day as other local elections. 21 of the 66 seats were up for election, with 1 ward being uncontested.
