The Purple Line or Line 3 is one of the three lines of Chennai Metro, Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony to SIPCOT-Siruseri. The line will consist of 47 stations, out of which 28 are underground and 19 are elevated.

Phase II

In 2013, E. Sreedharan emphasized the need for a greater expansion of the Chennai metro network by undertaking subsequent phases. In July 2016, the then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa announced that Chennai Metro Phase 2 would be 104 km long and have 104 stations. [1] In July 2017, in a suo motu statement in the State Legislative Assembly, an extension in Phase II, involving an extension of Line 4 from Lighthouse up to Poonamallee, with the MadhavaramSholinganallur and Lighthouse–Poonamallee lines intersecting at Alwarthirunagar was announced, making Phase 2 116.1 km long. [2] The key focus for Phase 2 is to connect the northern (Madhavaram, Redhills) and southern parts (Siruseri, Sholinganallur) and the east parts of Chennai (Light house, Mylapore) to the western parts of Chennai (Porur, Poonamallee).

The present estimate for the phase 2 stands at Rs. 63,000 crore and received approval from the state government. Foundation stone for phase 2 was laid on 20 November 2020 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and construction for the phase from Poonamallee to Power House of Line 4 commenced on 1 June 2021. [4] [5] Addressing an event in Chennai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday 14 February 2021 said the Centre has set aside Rs 63,000 crore which is one of the largest projects sanctioned for any city in one-go. [6] The map and list of stations for all 3 lines of Phase 2 has also been published by CMRL.

DPR for Blue line 1 extension for 15.3 km pending approval from the state government. Feasibility study undergoing to extend the Phase 2 by 93 km [7] by CMRL. [8] Phase 2 is expected to be completed by 2028. [9] Phase 2 will have 138 trains with 3 coaches each, making a total of 414 coaches. [10]

The stations in phase II will be smaller at 150 m (490 ft) compared with 220 m (720 ft) in phase I. Phase II will have three depots, namely, Madhavaram (30 hectares), SIPCOT (10 ha [25 acres]), and Poonamallee (20 ha [49 acres]). [11]

Wimco Nagar is an elevated metro station on the North-South Corridor of the Line 1 Extension of the Blue Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. The Orange Line or Line 4 is one of the three lines of Chennai Metro, Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass. The line will consist of 27 stations, out of which 9 are underground and 18 are elevated.

The Red Line or Line 5 is one of the three lines of Chennai Metro, Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur. The line will consist of 45 stations, of which 6 are underground, 1 is at grade and 38 are elevated. The government has approved extension of metro rail's corridor-5 from Koyambedu to Pattabiram via Thirumangalam, Mogappair, Ambattur and Avadi as a branch line, with the DPR currently underway. Another extension from Madhavaram to Ennore is also being planned for feasibility study. At present, the proposed corridor-5 links Madhavaram with Sholinganallur via Koyambedu, Alandur and Madipakkam.

Royapettah metro station is a metro railway station on the Purple Line of the Chennai Metro. The station is among the underground stations along corridor III of the Chennai Metro, Madhavaram Milk Colony–Siruseri Sipcot 2 stretch. The station serves the neighbourhoods of Royapettah, Triplicane, and Gopalapuram.

Poonamallee Bypass metro station is a metro railway station on the Orange Line of the Chennai Metro. The station is among the 30 stations of corridor IV and 18 elevated stations along corridor IV of the Chennai Metro, Poonamallee Bypass–Lighthouse stretch. The station serves the neighbourhoods of Poonamallee.

Madhavaram Depot metro station is a metro railway station on the Red Line of the Chennai Metro. The station is the only at-grade station of the Chennai Metro, and one of the 48 stations of the Madhavaram Milk Colony–Sholinganallur stretch. The station serves the neighbourhoods of Madhavaram.

Wimco Nagar Depot Metro station is a Metro railway station on Line 1 Extension of the Chennai Metro. The station is one of the 10 stations in the Phase I northern extension and one of the 26 stations along the Blue Line of the Chennai Metro. The station will serve the neighbourhoods of Ernavur and other northern suburbs of Chennai. This station was inaugurated along with Thiruvottriyur Theradi Metro Station on 14 March 2022.

Thirumayilai metro station is a Metro railway station on the Orange Line of the Chennai Metro. The station is among the underground stations along corridor I of the Chennai Metro, Lighthouse–Poonamallee Bypass stretch. The station serves the neighbourhoods of Mylapore.

Retteri junction is an important road intersection at Kolathur of Chennai district, Tamil Nadu in India. It is located at the intersection of Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, and Perambur - Red Hills road at Kolathur. It is also used by heavy vehicles such as containers that lead to Ennore port. Vehicles come from Anna Nagar via. Padi Junction pass through this Retteri junction. Also, vehicles to and fro Red Hills via. Puzhal pass through this junction. And also, this junction is crossed by vehicles to and fro Madhavaram. Vehicles to and fro Perambur, also pass through Retteri junction.
