"Mainland China" is a geopolitical term defined as the territory governed by the People's Republic of China, excluding dependent territories of the PRC, and other territories within Greater China. By convention, the territories that fall outside of the Chinese mainland include:
Palau gained its independence October 1, 1994, with the entry into force of the Compact of Free Association with the United States. Palau was the last Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands territories to gain its independence. Under the Compact, the U.S. remains responsible for Palau's defense for 50 years.
The American Institute in Taiwan is the de facto Embassy of the United States of America in Taiwan. The AIT institution is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the federal government of the United States in Taiwan with Congressional oversight. The AIT was officially created as a U.S. government-sponsored non-profit, private corporation established under the auspices of the U.S. government to serve its interests in Taiwan. Primarily staffed by employees of the United States Department of State and local workers, the AIT provides consular services normally offered by United States diplomatic missions, with the Great Seal of the State Department hung at AIT's main office in Taipei. The establishment of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1979 required acknowledgment of the "one-China policy" and subsequent termination of diplomatic relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan). The AIT now serves to assist and protect U.S. interests in Taiwan in a quasi-official manner, and also processes US visas and provides consular services to U.S. expatriates. Following the swift passage of the 2018 Taiwan Travel Act by the United States, it now serves as a high-level representative bureau on behalf of United States in Taiwan. It receives full protection from the United States Marine Corps as do all US embassies.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO), also known as Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Taipei Representative Office (TRO) or Taipei Mission, is an alternative diplomatic institution serving as a de facto embassy or a consulate of the Republic of China to exercise the foreign affairs and consular services in specific countries which have established formal diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. As the PRC denies the legitimacy of the ROC as a sovereign state and claims the ROC-controlled territories as an integral part of its China. An exclusive mandate namely One-China policy, mandates any country that wishes to establish a diplomatic relationship with the PRC must first sever any formal relationship with the ROC. According to The Fletcher Forum of World Affairs, "non-recognition of the Taiwanese government is a prerequisite for conducting formal diplomatic relations with the PRC—in effect forcing other governments to choose between Beijing and Taipei." As a result, these countries only allow the ROC to establish representative offices instead of a fully-fledged embassy or consulate for the purpose of conducting practical bilateral relations without granting full diplomatic recognition.
Numerous states have ceased their diplomatic recognition of the Republic of China during the last 70 years, since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Under the One China policy, the ROC is recognized by 13 UN member states and Holy See with 58 UN member states and Somaliland maintaining unofficial cultural and economic relations.
The People's Republic of China Travel Document is a type of travel document issued by Chinese embassies, consulates, and other foreign offices to Chinese citizens for their international travel to China and other countries. The bearer of the Travel Document is legally a Chinese citizen in accordance with the Nationality Law.

Qin Gang is a Chinese diplomat and politician who has is currently a State Councilor of the People's Republic of China and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, making him China's second highest ranked diplomat after Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Politburo member Wang Yi. He previously served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2018 to 2021 and most recently as Chinese Ambassador to the United States from 2021 to 2023.
The German Institute Taipei ; is the overseas representative office of Germany in Taiwan, which promotes the non-diplomatic German-Taiwanese relations and looks after German interests there. Tasks of the institution includes the increasing of bilateral cooperation, dealing with consular affairs like Visa or passport, providing a variety of services for German citizens in Taiwan and German-related information to Taiwanese people. In some instances, it maintains contacts with Taiwanese government on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, acting as a de facto embassy. Institute affairs are led by a Director General, who acts as the German representative to Taiwan.

The Holy Spirit of Blood and Water Church, was founded by Zokun in August 1988 in Taiwan. At the time of its establishment, the government of the Republic of China decided that it had cult-like tendencies and suppressed it. Taiwan's famous theological education website "Reformed Righteousness Network" characterizes the "Holy Spirit of Blood and Water" as a heresy. In 1987, it began its missionary activities in China and was recognized as a cult by the Government of the People's Republic of China in 1995. Zokun claimed that the organization has 300,000 members. This number of believers is not corroborated by others.
Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, China's position has been ambiguous, refraining from endorsing Russia's position that it needed to invade Ukraine, nor acknowledging its own assistance to Russia. The Chinese government refused to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine, repeated Russian propaganda and disinformation about the war, opposed economic sanctions against Russia, and abstained or sided with Russia in United Nations votes on the war in Ukraine. According to The Economist, "China’s professed neutrality is in reality a pro-Russian pseudo-neutrality."
China–Nicaragua relations are the bilateral relationship between China and Nicaragua. Official relations began in 1985, but were broken in 1990 as a result of Nicaragua's recognition of Taiwan. Relations were restored in 2021. China has an embassy in Managua and Nicaragua has an embassy in Beijing.
