List of best-selling albums in Germany

Germany is the third largest music market in the world, and the largest in Europe. [1] This is a list of the best-selling albums in Germany that have been certified by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI). Since January 1, 2003, BVMI certifies an album platinum for the shipment of 200,000 copies across Germany. [2] All albums in this list must have sold more than a million copies.

<i>Year of the Dragon</i> (Modern Talking album) 2000 studio album by Modern Talking

Year of the Dragon is the ninth studio album by German duo Modern Talking, released on 28 February 2000 by Hansa Records. The album entered the German Albums Chart at number three on 13 March 2000 and spent two weeks in the top five. It has been certified platinum by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI), denoting shipments in excess of 300,000 units in Germany.

<i>Reptile</i> (album) 2001 studio album by Eric Clapton

Reptile is the 14th solo studio album by Eric Clapton. The album was produced by Eric Clapton with Simon Climie and is Clapton's first album to include keyboard work by Billy Preston and background vocals by the Impressions. The album reached the Top 10 in 20 countries, topping the national album charts in three of them. In total, the album sold more than 2.5 million copies and gained several certification awards around the globe. To help promote album sales, music network VH1 streamed the album in full on TV.

German singer Xavier Naidoo began his music career in the early 1990s. His debut studio album, Seeing Is Believing, was released in 1994, consisting mostly of cover versions of traditional tracks and soul songs from the 1960s and 1970s. Released in the United States only, it failed to chart on the Billboard 200 and thus, was never released in Europe. Following a fall-out with main producer Nicole Dürr, he signed with Frankfurt am Main-based Pelham Power Productions (3P) and began appearing as a background vocalist on several of his label-mates' albums. Naidoo's second studio album Nicht von dieser Welt, produced unter the guidance of Moses Pelham and Martin Haas, was released in May 1998. The album peaked at number one on the German Albums Chart and sold more than a million copies. Its singles included his debut single "20.000 Meilen", the top twenty entries "Nicht von dieser Welt" and "Seine Straßen" as well as top five hit "Sie sieht mich nicht", which served as the theme song for the feature film Asterix & Obelix Take On Caesar (1999). A gold-certified live album of his first concert tour, simply titled Live (1999), reached the top ten in Germany the following year.

<i>Strictly Physical</i> (album) 2007 studio album by Monrose

Strictly Physical is the second studio album by all-female German pop trio Monrose. It was released by Starwatch Music in association with Cheyenne Records and Warner Music on 21 September 2007 in German-speaking Europe and on 8 October 2007 in parts of Eastern Europe. Released only nine months after its best-selling predecessor Temptation (2006), the album took Monrose's work further into dance and electro music, featuring main production by Danish producers Remee, Thomas Troelsen, and Peter Biker, as well as British composers from production collectives Jiant, and Snowflakers.

German pop singer Sasha has released nine studio albums, one compilation album, and 17 singles. Originally a backing vocalist, Sasha started his career as the chorus voice for virtual eurodance projects and rap acts such as Sir Prize and Der Wolf. Following a successful feature with rapper Young Deenay, he release his debut album Dedicated to... on Warner Music in fall 1998. British rock band Smokie released 21 studio albums and 26+ singles between 1975 and 2010.

The Bundesverband Musikindustrie, or simply BVMI, represents the music industry in Germany. The association represents the interests of nearly 280 labels and music industry related enterprises, which comprise 90% of the music industry.

German recording artist Cassandra Steen has released four studio albums and twelve singles. Steen began her career as lead vocalist of pop trio Glashaus. She released her first solo album, Seele mit Herz (2004), during the hiatus of the band on band member Moses Pelham's 3–P label. It reached the top sixty of the German Albums Chart and produced the singles "Wie du lachst" and "Alles was du willst", both of which failed to chart or sell noticeably.

Wenn Worte meine Sprache wären is the first studio album by German recording artist Tim Bendzko. It was released by Sony Music Columbia on 17 June 2011 in German-speaking Europe. Bendzko worked with music producer Swen Meyer on most of the album which features material that was either written or co-written by himself. Its music incorporates a range of the contemporary rock, folk, and pop music genres with a mix of slow ballads and jazzy uptempo tracks.

German singer Yvonne Catterfeld has released eight studio albums, two compilation albums, two video albums and seventeen singles. After finishing second in the inaugural season of the television competition Stimme 2000, she was signed to a recording deal with Hansa Records. In 2001, she released her first single, "Bum", under her stage name Catterfeld; the song failed to chart in any music market. Her first album, Meine Welt (2003), was preceded by four further singles, including "Niemand sonst" and "Gefühle", both of which reached the top forty of the German Albums Chart, and "Für dich" which reached number one in Austria, Germany and Switzerland and marked her commercial breakthrough. "Liebe ist" is a song by German recording artist Nena. It was co-written and produced along by Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen for her 13th studio album, Willst du mit mir gehn (2005). Selected as the album's lead single, it served as the theme song for the Sat.1 telenovela Verliebt in Berlin. Upon its release in February 2005, "Liebe ist" topped the German Singles Chart for two weeks, becoming Nena's second number-one hit, after 1983's "99 Luftballons", and her first chart-topper as a solo artist. The Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) awarded the song a gold certification for shipping 150,000 units in Germany alone. A remix of "Liebe ist" for American audiences was considered but never surfaced.

"Verpiss' dich" is a song by German female pop-rap group Tic Tac Toe, written by Torsten Börger, Claudia A. Wohlfromm, and Tic Tac Toe. The track is a breakup song, with its lyrics directed at the ex-partner who has left for another woman. The song was released as the fourth and final single from the group's self-titled debut album in October 1996 and topped the charts in Germany and Switzerland. The single sold over 800,000 units by late April 1997.

<i>Klappe die 2te</i> 1997 studio album by Tic Tac Toe

Klappe die 2te is the second studio album by German all-female pop-rap band Tic Tac Toe, released in 1997 by RCA Records. The lyrics and music were written by the band's manager Claudia Wohlfromm, her then-husband Torsten Börger, who also produced the album, and the band itself. The title translates Take Two.
