Coast Guard ships

Main article: Swedish Coast Guard ships

Even if the Swedish Coast Guard (Swedish: Kustbevakningen) is not officially a part of the navy, and operates under the Ministry of Justice (Swedish:Justitiedepartementet), its activities are coordinated with the Swedish Armed Forces in a number of areas.[ citation needed ]

Amphibious Corps

The Swedish Amphibious Corps operates smaller patrol boats such as the Stridsbåt 90 and 90E along with the Griffon 2000TD

The Coast Guard operate along the entire coastline of Sweden, with the mission to rescue, assist and monitor. The total number of vessels exceeds 100 whereof 25 are patrol boats dedicated to maritime surveillance.[ citation needed ]

In addition, the Coast Guard has three Dash 8 Q-300 aircraft for maritime surveillance.[ citation needed ]

Air force

The air force operates a multitude of different aircraft platforms, with JAS 39 Gripen C/D being the main airframe. The air force also operates C130H and Saab 340 in a transport role along with other aircraft types for other capabilities and missions.

In terms of helicopters in the Swedish air force bothe NH90 (HKP14) and UH60-M Blackhawk (HKP16) is being used, as well as AW-109 (HKP15) as a light helicopter.

In 2014 the Swedish air force ordered 60 Gripen E.[ citation needed ]

Combat aircraft

The total number of combat aircraft and armed trainers in the Swedish air force is currently 217, and will in time be increased to 317–337.

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a light single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace and defence company Saab AB. The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls. Later aircraft are fully NATO interoperable. The Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) is a family of Swedish tracked armoured combat vehicles designed by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), Hägglund & Söner and Bofors during the mid-1980s to early 1990s, before entering service in Sweden in the mid-1990s. The CV90 platform design has continuously evolved from the Mk 0 to the current Mk IV with technological advances and changing battlefield requirements.

<i>Visby</i>-class corvette Swedish stealth missile corvettes

The Visby class is a series of corvettes in use by the Swedish Navy. It is the latest class of corvette adopted by the navy after the Göteborg and Stockholm-class corvettes. Its design emphasizes low visibility radar cross-section and infrared signature, and the class has received widespread international attention because of its capabilities as a stealth ship. The first ship in the class is named after Visby, the main city on the island of Gotland.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nordic Battlegroup</span> Military unit

The Nordic Battlegroup (NBG) is one of eighteen European Union battlegroups. It consists of around 2,500 soldiers including officers, with manpower contributed from the seven participating Northern European countries, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Ireland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The military strategic command of the force is done in cooperation with any of the suitable five Operation Headquarters framework nations at the time for deployment. Before 2022, Denmark opted out of the Common Security and Defence Policy of the EU, hence all battlegroups. Norway has negotiated an opt-in to participate, even though it is not an EU member state. Sweden, Finland and Norway have planned to form a joint battlegroup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Archer Artillery System</span> Swedish 155 mm self-propelled howitzer

The Archer Artillery System, or Archer – FH77BW L52, or Artillerisystem 08, is a Swedish self-propelled howitzer system. The main piece of the system is a fully automated 155 mm L52 (52-calibre-long) gun-howitzer and a M151 Protector remote-controlled weapon station mounted on a modified 6×6 chassis of the Volvo A30D all-terrain articulated hauler. The crew and engine compartment is armoured and the cab is fitted with bullet and fragmentation-resistant windows. The system also includes an ammunition resupply vehicle, a support vehicle, BONUS submunitions, and M982 Excalibur guided projectiles.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Blekinge Wing</span> Military unit

Blekinge Wing, also F 17 Kallinge, or simply F 17, is a Swedish Air Force wing with the main base located near Ronneby in southern Sweden. It is one of the three remaining wings in Sweden and currently has two squadrons of multirole aircraft. F 17 in the south and F 21 in the north are the two wings remaining to have operational squadrons. F 7 is a school where pilots begin their training in the JAS 39 Gripen. After that the pilot's training is moved out to the two operational wings there they learn their final skills.

Skaraborg Wing, also F 7 Såtenäs, or simply F 7, is a Swedish Air Force wing with the main base located near Lidköping in south-central Sweden.

The Blekinge-class submarine is the next generation of submarines developed by Kockums for the Swedish Navy, also known as the A26 type.

HSwMS Artemis is a signals intelligence gathering vessel currently in service for the Swedish Navy.

Operation Gloria was a Swedish military operation conducted in support of handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden.

Major General Olof Jonas Wikman is a Swedish Air Force officer. His senior commands include Assistant Chief of Armed Forces Training & Procurement/Chief of Procurement (2017–2021) and as Deputy Chief of Joint Operations (2021–2022). Wikman serves as Chief of Air Force from 14 December 2022.

The Luleå class is a Swedish corvette class under development. In total four ships are planned to be built by Saab Kockums. The first two ships are to be commissioned by 2030 and two more by 2035. In June 2023 it was announced that the ships would receive names after Swedish coastal cities:
