The governor of Telangana is the nominal head of state of the Indian state of Telangana and a representative of the President of India and is appointed for a term of five years, and holds office at the president's pleasure. The governor is the de jure head of the state government; all its executive actions are taken in the governor's name. However, the governor must act on the advice of the popularly elected government of Telangana, headed by the chief minister of Telangana, who thus serve as the de facto executive authority of the state. The Constitution of India also empowers the governor to act upon their own discretion, such as the ability to appoint or dismiss a ministry, recommend President's rule, or reserve bills for the president's assent. The governor of Telangana resides at their official residence at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Politics of India works within the framework of the country's Constitution. India is a parliamentary secular democratic republic in which the president of India is the head of state & first citizen of India and the Prime Minister of India is the head of government. It is based on the federal structure of government, although the word is not used in the Constitution itself. India follows the dual polity system, i.e. federal in nature, that consists of the central authority at the centre and states at the periphery. The Constitution defines the organizational powers and limitations of both central and state governments; it is well recognised, fluid and considered supreme, i.e. the laws of the nation must conform to it.
