Around 45 privately owned television channels were permitted by the Government of Bangladesh as of 2019, of which thirty-five are currently on air. [1] Six television channels, namely STV-US, CSB News, Channel 1, Diganta Television, Islamic TV, and Channel 16, have been taken off air. Bangladesh has four state-owned television stations, of which only three broadcast on terrestrial television, which are BTV Dhaka, BTV Chittagong, and Sangsad Television. In total, there are 49 television channels in Bangladesh, with 39 currently on air.
As of today, Bangladesh has four state-owned television channels. Among them, Bangladesh Television is the oldest, founded in 1964.

Bangladesh Television, commonly known by its acronym BTV, is the state-owned television network of Bangladesh. The network was originally established as the East Pakistan branch of PTV in 1964. It is the oldest Bengali-language television network in the world, and is the sister to the radio broadcaster Bangladesh Betar, which, along with BTV, are both owned and operated by the government.

Bangladesh Television Chattogram or Bangladesh Television Chittagong, branded on-air as BTV Chittagong or BTV Chattogram, sometimes known as CTV, is a BTV-affiliated television station broadcast from Chittagong, serving southeastern Bangladesh.
