The mayor's office administers all city services,public property,police and fire protection,most public agencies,and enforces all city and state laws within New York City.

The New York City Department of Correction (NYCDOC) is the branch of the municipal government of New York City responsible for the custody,control,and care of New York City's imprisoned population,housing the majority of them on Rikers Island. It employs 8,949 uniformed officers and 2,027 civilian staff,has 543 vehicles,and processes over 100,000 new inmates every year,retaining a population of inmates of between 3,000 and 6,000. Its nickname is New York's Boldest. Its regulations are compiled in title 39 of the New York City Rules.
The Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center was an 800-bed jail barge used to hold inmates for the New York City Department of Corrections. The barge was anchored off the Bronx's southern shore,across from Rikers Island,near Hunts Point. It was built for $161 million at Avondale Shipyard in Louisiana,along the Mississippi River near New Orleans,and brought to New York in 1992 to reduce overcrowding in the island's land-bound buildings for a lower price. Nicknamed "The Boat" by prison staff and inmates,it was designed to handle inmates from medium- to maximum-security in 16 dormitories and 100 cells.
There are forty-five local police agencies in Westchester County,New York. As well as other agencies. They are responsible for protecting Westchester County,these agencies frequently work with one another in the surrounding counties. Current economic times has caused a few Westchester municipalities to consider consolidation of police services. The Westchester County Department of Public Safety started providing primary police services for the Town/Village of Mount Kisco in 2015.
Eric Leroy Adams is an American politician and former police officer,currently serving as the 110th mayor of New York City since 2022. An ideologically moderate member of the Democratic Party,Adams was an officer in the New York City Transit Police and then the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for more than 20 years,retiring at the rank of captain. He served in the New York State Senate from 2006 to 2013,representing the 20th Senate district in Brooklyn. In November 2013,Adams was elected Brooklyn Borough President,the first African-American to hold the position,and reelected in November 2017.

Errol D. Toulon Jr. is the 67th and current sheriff of Suffolk County,New York on Long Island. Toulon is the first African American sheriff and first African American elected official to hold a nonjudicial countywide office in Suffolk County. Sheriff Toulon was re-elected to a second term on November 2,2021.
Dermot Francis Shea is an American police officer who was the 44th New York City Police Commissioner. He assumed the position on December 1,2019,and was sworn in by Mayor Bill de Blasio in a public ceremony on December 2.
Dave Ashok Chokshi is an American physician and former public health official who served as the 43rd health commissioner of New York City. He was the first health commissioner of Asian descent. Chokshi previously served as the inaugural chief population health officer for NYC Health + Hospitals and as a White House fellow in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Currently he is a practicing physician at Bellevue Hospital and the inaugural Sternberg Family Professor of Leadership at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership,part of the City College of New York.
Kathryn A. Garcia is an American public official serving as Director of State Operations for the state of New York. She served as commissioner for the New York City Sanitation Department from 2014 to 2020 and was a candidate in the 2021 New York City Democratic mayoral primary,losing by 0.8 percentage points to Eric Adams.
David C. Banks is an American attorney and educator who is currently serving as the 31st New York City Schools chancellor in the administration of Mayor Eric Adams.
Keechant L. Sewell is an American former police officer and administrator who served as the 45th New York City Police Commissioner,the first woman and third black person to serve in the position. On June 12,2023,Sewell announced that she was stepping down as commissioner. No reason was given for her departure. On November 2,2023,the New York Mets announced that Sewell would become their senior Vice President of security and guest experience.
Vincent Sapienza is an American civil servant who is serving as the Chief Operating Officer of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. From 2017 to 2022,he was the agency's Commissioner.
