Michael Joseph Carbonaro [1] (born April 28, 1976) [1] [2] [3] is an American actor, magician, and improv artist.
Born and raised in Oakdale, New York, on Long Island, the younger of two sons of an electrician father and a nurse mother, he attended Connetquot High School in Bohemia, New York. [3] He began performing magic professionally while growing up, earning his college tuition while still in his teens. [3] He holds a bachelor's degree in drama from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. [3]
He is known for his hidden-camera "Magic Clerk" segments on The Tonight Show , in which he tricks unsuspecting customers at a convenience store. This led to a television series with a similar premise, The Carbonaro Effect , which premiered on TruTV on May 15, 2014, [3] following a preview episode on April 1, 2014. [4]
In 2004, he was featured on Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central. Following that, Carbonaro played Andy Wilson in the 2006 comedy Another Gay Movie . For his work, he won the Outfest "Best Actor in a Feature Film" award. [5] Carbonaro has also appeared on All My Children (2006), The Guiding Light (2006), and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2007).
Carbonaro is gay. [6] He has been married to actor Peter Stickles since 2014. [7]

The Carbonaro Effect is an American hidden camera practical joke reality television series hosted by magician and prankster Michael Carbonaro, who performs tricks on people caught on hidden camera. It debuted on April 1, 2014, and has been aired on truTV. To promote the second half of the first season, TBS aired a two-hour marathon on October 30, 2014. The second season premiered on April 1, 2015; the third season premiered on February 1, 2017; and the fourth season premiered on May 17, 2018, along with a new insider series titled The Carbonaro Effect: Inside Carbonaro. On October 11, 2019, it was announced that the fifth season would premiere on November 7, 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series was placed on hiatus. As of 2024, it is unknown if it will continue after its fifth season.
The Magicians is an American fantasy television series that aired on Syfy and is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Lev Grossman.
