Micromedia Publications is the publisher of seven weekly newspapers [1] [2] based in Monmouth/Ocean County, New Jersey. [3] The newspapers cover Howell, Jackson, Toms River, Manchester, Brick, Berkeley Township, Lacey Township, Barnegat, Stafford Township and Long Beach Island. The newspapers are published every Saturday and are distributed through various distribution methods. All seven newspapers are a free press.

History

In 1995, Stewart Swann and Robyn Friedrich founded the company by launching The Manchester Times. The company introduced The Berkeley Times (1996), The Lakewood Times (1998) (ceased publication in 2002), The Jackson Times (2000), The Brick Times (2002), The Howell Times (2004), The Toms River Times (2005) and The Lacey Barnegat Times (2010), now The Southern Ocean Times (2013). The news editor is Chris Lundy. The Vice President and Chief Operating Officer is Jason Allentoff, formerly of Townsquare Media. [11]

From 1995 until September 2019, the company was based on Union Avenue in Lakehurst. In late 2019, the company moved to the Lakehurst Circle Center to more modern facilities. [12]

Distribution

All seven of Micromedia's newspapers are distributed free in Monmouth/Ocean County, New Jersey. [13] In addition to the print editions, Micromedia newspapers can be found online through the issuu service.

Radio and Digital

Micromedia has a special arrangement with WBNJ in Barnegat. During drivetime, the station broadcasts newscasts that contain Micromedia news content. [14]

In 2017, Micromedia launched Jersey Shore Online, a hyperlocal breaking news website

In January 2022, Micromedia acquired a number of digital properties including Toms River Online, Bricktown Online, Bayville Online, Seaside Heights Online and Southern Ocean County Online. [15]

Anniversary Honors

On Micromedia's 20th anniversary, Ocean County Commissioners Gerry P. Little and Joseph H. Vicari presented the owners and staff with a proclamation marking the occasion. Senator Christopher J. Connors was on hand for the ceremony. Towns including Toms River and Berkeley Township also marked the event with special mentions at their respective council meetings.

The route through Toms River Township is lined with many businesses and named Little League World Champions Boulevard in honor of Toms River East Little League's victory in the 1998 Little League World Series. Route 37 intersects many major roads in the Toms River area, including County Route 527 (CR 527), the Garden State Parkway/U.S. Route 9 (US 9), Route 166, CR 549, and CR 571. The route experiences congestion from both development in the area and from traffic bound for the barrier islands in the summer.

The Shore Conference is an athletic conference of private and public high schools in the U.S. state of New Jersey, centered at the Northern Jersey Shore. All schools in this conference are located within Monmouth County and Ocean County. The Shore Conference is broken up into six classes based on school size and location. Classes change every two years based upon school size. The league operates under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).

Ocean County Vocational Technical School Grunin Performing Arts Academy is a specialized, public high school program which concentrates heavily on the fields of performing arts such as dance, vocal music, and theater, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from all of Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. Located in Toms River on the campus of Ocean County College, it is the sister high school of the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences, another full-time program that is also part of the Ocean County Vocational Technical School district. Because the school is a full-time program, students take both their performance major and academic courses at the school. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools through July 2027.
