Mount Duval, a large forested mountain of the New England Range, part of the Great Dividing Range, is located on the Northern Tablelands in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia.

With an elevation of 1,393 metres (4,570 ft) above sea level, [1] Mount Duval is one of the largest peaks in the area, dominating the Armidale skyline located approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) to the south of the summit. Mount Duval features on the logo of the Armidale Dumaresq Council.

The mountain was named after John Duval, a convict and servant of a local pastoralist who worked in the area around the mountain in the 1830s. [2] Most of the mountain is contained within the Duval Nature Reserve. [3] Duval College at the University of New England is also named after the mountain.[ citation needed ]

Little Mount Duval

To the north-west of Mount Duval sits Little Mount Duval, with an elevation of 1,404 metres (4,606 ft) above sea level, slightly higher than Mount Duval. When viewed from Armidale, Little Mount Duval appears much smaller and was so named accordingly. On the summit of Little Mount Duval sit the transmission relay towers for a number of radio and television stations that broadcast into Armidale.

Thunderbolts Way

Thunderbolts Way is a 290-kilometre (180 mi) country road located in the Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia. The road links Gloucester to Walcha, Uralla, where it very briefly joins the New England Highway and, to Copes Creek, 16 km (10 mi) south of the Gwydir Highway intersection at Inverell. The road is partially sealed and passes through thickly forested mountain areas with many nearby national parks and nature reserves.

Illawarra escarpment

The Illawarra escarpment, or officially the Illawarra Range, is the fold-created cliffs and plateau-eroded outcrop mountain range west of the Illawarra coastal plain south of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The range encloses the Illawarra region which stretches from Stanwell Park in the north to Kiama, Gerringong and the Shoalhaven River in the south.

Watagan Mountains

Mount Kaputar

The mountain is a prominent landmark for travellers on the Newell Highway as it rises abruptly from the plains. In the cold of winter the mountain may receive a light dusting of snow.
