History

The Muungano Party was established in 2007, [1] and nominated a single National Assembly candidate for the 2007 general elections, Tito Mutunga Muunda in Makueni. He received 517 votes, finishing twelfth in a field of nineteen candidates.

In the 2013 elections the party nominated 16 candidates for the National Assembly. It received 0.9% of the vote, winning a single seat, [2] Francis Mwangangi Kilonzo in Yatta. [3] It also won the gubernatorial election in Makueni County, with former MP Kivutha Kibwana elected as the county's Governor. Kibwana left to join Wiper in February 2017. [4]

The party nominated twelve National Assembly candidates for the 2017 general elections, [5] although Kilonzo had left the party and ran as a Chama Cha Uzalendo candidate. [6] The party lost the Yatta seat, but Fabian Muli was elected in Kangundo to retain the party's representation in parliament. [7]

Mutula Kilonzo was a Kenyan politician and Senior Counsel, who served as Minister of Education after having previously served as the Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan and justice and constitutional affairs He belonged to the Orange Democratic Movement-Kenya and was elected to represent the Makueni County as Senator in the 2013 general elections.

Local elections were held in Machakos County to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. Under the new constitution, which was passed in a 2010 referendum, the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. They will also be the first general elections run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) which has released the official list of candidates.

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy Political party in Kenya

2017 Machakos County gubernatorial election

The 2017 Machakos gubernatorial election took place on 8 August 2017 to elect the governor and deputy governor of Machakos, concurrently with Machakos Senator to the Senate as other Counties and Machakos MPs to the Kenya National Assembly and Elections of County Assembly MCAs.

Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. is the current Senator of Makueni County government, Kenya. He is a member and vice chair of the Wiper Democratic Movement, Kenya and was elected as the second Senator of Makueni County Government on the WDM-K ticket in a by-election in July 2013, after the demise of his father lawyer Mutula Kilonzo and is currently serving his second term since his election in August 2017.
