The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a political party in Kenya.
The PDP was established in 1992. [1] It won a single seat in the 2007 general elections, [2] Richard Momoima Onyonka in Kitutu Chache Constituency. In 2010 Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP James Omingo Magara defected to the party after the ODM did not nominate him as its candidate in the South Mugirango by-election, which was held after Magara's victory in the 2007 elections was annulled due to irregularities. [3] However, Magara was defeated in the by-election.
Onyonka defected to the ODM prior to the 2013 general elections, in which the PDP nominated 22 candidates. It received 0.8% of the vote, again winning a single seat; [4] Onyango K'Oyoo in Muhoroni Constituency. The party also won the governorship of Migori County, where Okoth Obado was victorious. However, K'Oyoo and Obado both later defected to the ODM. [5] In the 2017 general elections the party only nominated nine candidates for the National Assembly, [6] with Magara being the sole Senatorial candidate. [7] The party won two seats in the National Assembly, Oroo Oyioka in Bonchari and Innocent Momanyi in Bobasi. [8]
Elections in Kenya take place within the framework of a multi-party democracy and a presidential system. The President, Senate and National Assembly are directly elected by voters, with elections organised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Political Life
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is a centre-left political party in Kenya. It is the successor of a grassroots people's movement which was formed during the 2005 Kenyan constitutional referendum campaign. This movement separated in August 2007 into the Orange Democratic Movement Party of Kenya and the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya.

General elections were held in Kenya on 27 December 2007. Voters elected the President, and members of the National Assembly. They coincided with the 2007 Kenyan local elections.
The 10th Parliament of Kenya saw the National Assembly opened on 15 January 2008. This following the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of Raila Odinga winning a majority in the 2007 parliamentary elections. Raila was a candidate in the presidential elections, which resulted in a controversial victory for Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity. The opening of the parliament was fraught with jeers, cheers and brawls between the opposing parties; Mwai Kibaki was greeted by the ODM members with silence and boos, while Raila was greeted by PNU members with accusations of genocide.
Kipkalya Kiprono Kones was a Kenyan politician who served as a minister during the 1990s and was briefly Minister of Roads in 2008. He was a member of the National Assembly of Kenya from 1988 to 2008.

Richard Momoima is a Kenyan mp. He belonged to the People's Democratic Party and was elected to represent the Kitutu Chache Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. He is now a Ford Kenya Party member and retained his seat through this seat in the August 2017 elections.
James Omingo Magara is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and was the MP for South Mugirango Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya up till 2009. He first won the seat in the by-elections in 2001 on Ford-Kenya ticket, replacing his brother Enoch Nyakieya Magara of Ford-Kenya, who had died in a car accident. He retained the seat at the 2002 elections, but now representing Ford-People, and in the 2007 elections representing ODM. He was the assistant minister of trade until December 2009 the High court of Kenya declared the South Mugirango parliamentary seat vacant due to irregularities in the election process, although Magara himself was not found guilty of any rigging. Subsequent South Mugirango by-election was held in June 2010. Magara decamped to the little-known People's Democratic Party (PDP) after being denied ODM's nomination apparently because he had fallen out of favour with party leader Raila Odinga. The by-election was won by Manson Nyamweya of Ford-People, who beat Magara and Ibrahim Ochoi of ODM. In 2013,Omingo Magara Vied for Kisii Senatorial seat where he came far 3rd as Chris Obure worn in the fiercely contest elections
Belgut is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies of Kericho County. The constituency was established for the 1963 elections. A new Constituency Sigowet-Soin was curved out of this Constituency in 2013 after the promulgation of the new constitution (2010).
