The NHK Trophy is an annual international figure skating competition held as part of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating. The NHK Trophy is organized by the Japan Skating Federation and began in 1979. It was added to the Grand Prix series in 1995, the series' inaugural year. Medals may be awarded in men's singles, women’s singles, pair skating, and ice dance.

Skaters earned points toward qualifying for the 2009–10 Grand Prix Final. The compulsory dance was the Tango Romantica.

Ryuichi Kihara is a Japanese pair skater. With his skating partner, Riku Miura, he is the 2023 Worlds champion, two-time World silver medalist, the 2023 Four Continents champion, the 2024 Four Continents silver medalist, the 2022–23 Grand Prix Final champion, a two-time ISU Grand Prix gold medalist, the 2021 CS Autumn Classic champion, and the 2020 Japanese national champion. The 2021–22 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating was a series of senior international competitions organized by the International Skating Union that were held from October 2021 through December 2021. Medals were awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. Skaters earned points based on their placements at each event and the top six in each discipline qualified to compete at the Grand Prix Final in Osaka, Japan, although the Grand Prix Final was ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The corresponding series for junior-level skaters was the 2021–22 ISU Junior Grand Prix.

The 2021 NHK Trophy was the fourth event in the 2021–22 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo on November 12–14. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. Skaters earned points toward qualifying for the 2021–22 Grand Prix Final.

The 2022–23 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating was a series of senior international competitions organized by the International Skating Union that were held from October 2022 through December 2022. Medals were awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. Skaters earned points based on their placements at each event and the top six in each discipline qualified to compete at the Grand Prix Final in Turin, Italy. The corresponding series for junior-level skaters was the 2022–23 ISU Junior Grand Prix.

The 2022 NHK Trophy was the fifth event of the 2022-23 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating: a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at the Makomanai Ice Arena in Sapporo, Japan, from November 18-20. Medals were awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. Skaters earned points toward qualifying for the 2022-23 Grand Prix Final.
