The Nepal T20 League (abbreviated as NepalT20) is a Nepalese men's Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Cricket Association of Nepal in 2022. [3] The first edition of the tournament was held from 24 December 2022 to 11 January 2023. [4]

History

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) signed a NPR 330 million agreement with Indian sports management company Seven3Sports for a period of eight years to hold a franchise Twenty20 league tournament on 26 April 2022. [3] On 18 May 2022, CAN announced that the first edition of the tournament would be held in 24 September to 22 October of the year. [5] The league was authorized by the International Cricket Council on 11 July 2022. [6] On 19 July 2022, four franchises, Lumbini All Stars, Kantipur Capital, Biratnagar Super Kings and Janakpur Royals, and their owners were announced. [7] Two more franchises, Pokhara Avengers and Far West United were announced on 8 September 2022 along with their owners. [8] The draft for the first edition of the league was held from 10 September 2022 to 11 September 2022. [9] On 15 September 2022, the league was postponed to December of the same year after security concerns following announcement of the 2022 Nepalese general election. [10] The league was supposed to be held from 11 December 2022 but was postponed to 23 December after Kathmandu Gurkhas (renamed from Kantipur Capital) withdrew from the tournament. The team was replaced by a new Kathmandu franchise, the Kathmandu Knights. [11] The league was again postponed for a day and the 2022 edition officially began on 24 December 2022. [12]

Prize money

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced a total prize money of रु 10 million for the four franchises that reach the play-offs. The prize money is split as follows: [4]

In addition to this the player of the series will receive रु 500,000, the best bowler and the best batsmen will receive रु 200,000 each, the rising player will be awarded रु 180,000 and the player of the match will receive रु 40,000. [4]

Sompal Kami is a Nepalese professional cricketer. Kami is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He is one of the eleven cricketers to play in Nepal's first ever One Day International (ODI) match, against the Netherlands, in August 2018. In January 2019, he became the first bowler for Nepal to take a five-wicket haul in an ODI. He represents the Nepal Army Club of the National League, Jagdamba Giants of the Nepal Premier League, and New Horizon College, which plays in the SPA Cup.

The 2014 Nepal Premier League was the first season of the Nepal Premier League. The event was organised by the Cricket Association of Nepal and managed by Zohra Sports Management. It was organised between May and June 2014 and consisted of a One Day tournament played in round-robin format followed by semi-finals and finals between the top four teams. Initially, the 2014 NPL was also supposed to include Twenty20 & Two Day tournaments but were later called off. Two-day tournament was called off by the organising committee due to bad weather conditions in the allocated venues amongst other reasons. Due to tight international schedule, ZSM was unable to complete the Twenty20 event, while telecommunication giants Ncell had also pulled out their sponsorship from the tournament. The Twenty20 & Two Day tournaments are expected to be included from the 2015 season onwards.

Everest Premier League (EPL) is a franchise Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by EPL Pvt. Ltd., a private group in Nepal. It is the biggest cricket tournament in the country, played during the northern winter calendar, mostly in the month of December. It is played in round-robin format in which top four teams qualify for the playoffs. The tournament is renowned for having high attendance among the domestic cricket of the ICC associate nations. The first edition of the tournament was held in September 2016 with six franchises consisting of domestic and international players. Chitwan Tigers are the defending champions after winning the 2021 season.

The 2021 Everest Premier League, also known as EPL4 or Bajaj Pulsar EPL for sponsorship reasons, was the fourth edition of the Everest Premier League, a professional men's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Nepal. The event was initially scheduled for December 2019, before being postponed multiple times. Lalitpur Patriots were the defending champions, having won their first title in 2018, but were eliminated in the group stage after finishing fifth.

Aasif Sheikh is a Nepalese cricketer, who plays as right-handed wicket-keeper-batsman. He made his debut for Nepal against the Netherlands in a Twenty20 International in April 2021.

Gulsan Jha is a Nepalese cricketer, who plays as a bowler for Nepal national team. He became the third youngest ODI player when he made his ODI debut against the United States at just 15 years and 212 days of age.

Kishore Mahato is a Nepalese cricketer who plays for Nepal as a medium fast bowler. He has played in different leagues including Nepal T20 League, EPL for different teams like Biratnagar Kings, Pokhara Rhinos, Armed Police Force, Kathmandu Golden, Gandaki Province and Lumbini All Stars. He also played for Greenvale Kangaroos in Victorian Premier League.

The 2022 Nepal T20 League, was inaugural edition of the Nepal T20 League, a professional men's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Nepal. The tournament was played from 24 December 2022 to 11 January 2023.
