The Civic Democratic Party is a conservative and soft Eurosceptic political party in the Czech Republic. The party generally sits centre-right to right-wing on the political spectrum, and holds 34 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, and is the second strongest party by number of seats following the 2021 election. It is the only political party in the Czech Republic that has always been represented in the Chamber of Deputies.

Mirek Topolánek is a Czech politician and business manager who served as the prime minister of the Czech Republic from 2006 to 2009 and the leader of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) from 2002 to 2010. Between 2006 and 2009, Topolánek was the member of the Chamber of Deputies (MP) and senator from Ostrava from 1996 until 2004. After leaving the politics in 2010, Topolánek has been active in the electric power industry.

In Czech politics, the Blue Team was a members organisation of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), whose purpose, as stated on its website, was to help at ODS meetings, promote right-wing political ideas, promote the team itself, analyse opinion polls, and recruit new members.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Michal Horáček</span> Czech writer and businessman (born 1952)

Michal Horáček is a Czech entrepreneur, lyricist, poet, writer, journalist and music producer. From 2007 until 2010, he was the chairman of the Czech Academy of Popular Music. He founded Czech betting company Fortuna. He stood to become Czech president in the 2018 presidential election, but came in 4th in the first round, failing to advance.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2013 Czech presidential election</span>

Presidential elections were held in the Czech Republic in January 2013, the country's first direct election for the presidency. No candidate received a majority of the votes in the first round on 11–12 January, so a second round runoff election was held on 25–26 January. Nine individuals secured enough signatures or support of parliamentarians to become official candidates for the office. Miloš Zeman of the Party of Civic Rights (SPOZ) and Karel Schwarzenberg of TOP 09 qualified for the second round, which was won by Zeman with 54.8% of the vote, compared to Schwarzenberg's 45.2%. Zeman assumed office in March 2013 after being sworn in.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 Czech presidential election</span>

Presidential elections were held in the Czech Republic in January 2018. The first round took place on 12 and 13 January. As no candidate won a majority, a run-off election between the top two candidates, Jiří Drahoš and President Miloš Zeman, was held on 26 and 27 January 2018.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2012 Civic Democratic Party presidential primaries</span>

Civic Democratic Party presidential primaries, 2012 were held for 2013 Czech presidential election from 30 April to 28. June 2012. They were the first presidential primaries in the Czech Republic. Přemysl Sobotka on the primaries with 61% of votes against 39 votes for the other candidate, Evžen Tošenovský. Primaries suffered for low voter turnout as only 6,203 from 27,000 party members voted.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jaroslav Kubera</span> Czech politician (1947–2020)

Jaroslav Kubera was a Czech politician for the Civic Democratic Party, who served in the Czech Senate representing Teplice from 2000 and the Senate President from 2018 until his death in 2020. He previously served as mayor of Teplice from 1994 to 2018.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2012 Czech Social Democratic Party presidential primaries</span>

Presidential primaries to select the Czech Social Democratic Party candidate for the 2013 presidential elections were held in May 2012. The primaries were indirect, with only members of the party's Central Executive Committee able to vote. Jiří Dienstbier Jr. became the party's candidate after receiving 107 votes to the 35 against. Dienstbier's only rival was Jan Švejnar, who withdrew prior to voting taking place.

Jiří Drahoš is a Czech physical chemist and politician who has been the Senator of Prague 4 since October 2018. Previously, Drahoš served as President of the Czech Academy of Sciences from 2009 to 2017, and was a candidate in the 2018 Czech presidential election.

A leadership election for the Czech Party of Free Citizens was held on 18 November 2017, after the party's unsuccessful results in the legislative election and consequent resignation of the party's leadership. The election was expected to be a two-way contest between Tomáš Pajonk and Jiří Payne, but on 11 November 2017, former leader Petr Mach announced his candidacy. The results were announced on 19 November 2017, with Pajonk defeating Mach by a large margin.

The 2018 Czech presidential election debates were a series of debates held for the 2018 Czech presidential election. The incumbent president and front-runner Miloš Zeman declined to participate in debates for the first round. Zeman agreed to participate in debates against Jiří Drahoš for the second round.

Brno municipal election in 2018 was held as part of 2018 Czech municipal elections. ANO 2011 led by incumbent Mayor Petr Vokřál received highest number of votes being followed by Civic Democratic Party (ODS). ODS formed coalition with KDU-ČSL, ČSSD and Pirates after the election. Markéta Vaňková of ODS became the new Mayor.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 President of the Senate of the Czech Republic election</span>

Election of the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic was held on 14 November 2018. It was held after 2018 Senate election. Civic Democratic Party nominated Jaroslav Kubera, Mayors and Independents nominated Jan Horník and Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party nominated Václav Hampl. Incumbent President Milan Štěch doesn't seek reelection. It was the first time in the history of the Senate that more than 2 candidates run for the position. Senate factions usually came to an agreement about the new President in the past.
