Pirate Party is a label adopted by certain political parties around the world. Pirate parties support civil rights, direct democracy or alternatively participation in government, reform of copyright and patent laws to make them more flexible and open to encourage innovation and creativity, use of free and open-source software, free sharing of knowledge, information privacy, transparency, freedom of information, free speech, anti-corruption, net neutrality and oppose mass surveillance, censorship and Big Tech.

The Mayors and Independents is a liberal political party in the Czech Republic, focused on localism, regionalism and subsidiarity. It holds 33 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, and is the third strongest party by number of seats following the 2021 election. In the Czech Senate, the STAN group has 19 members.

At the European level, ANO is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party and the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament.

Parliamentary elections were held in the Czech Republic on 8 and 9 October 2021. All 200 members of the Chamber of Deputies were elected, with the leader of the resulting government to become the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. Following the 2017 parliamentary elections, the country had been ruled by a minority government consisting of ANO 2011 (ANO), led by prime minister Andrej Babiš, and the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), led by interior minister Jan Hamáček, with confidence and supply support from the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) until April 2021. The largest opposition party was the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), followed by the Czech Pirate Party. Other parties in the Chamber of Deputies included SPD, TOP 09, STAN, and KDU-ČSL.

The 2022 Prague municipal election was held in September 2022 as part of the nationwide municipal elections to elect members of the Prague City Assembly. It was a victory for Spolu which received the highest number of votes and seats ahead of ANO 2011 in second place. The Czech Pirate Party led by incumbent Mayor Zdeněk Hřib finished third. New coalition was formed 5 months after election and it consists of Spolu, Pirates and STAN. Bohuslav Svoboda became the new mayor.

The 2022 Plzeň municipal election was held on 23 and 24 September 2022 as part of the nationwide municipal elections. The result was a narrow victory for Spolu which received highest number of votes but was tied with ANO 2011 by number of seats. After the election ANO 2011 formed coalition with Czech Pirate Party and Mayors and Independents with Roman Zarzycký as the new Mayor. New coalition was to be supported by 2 SPD members of the assembly but after disagreement of Piráti and STAN leadership they were replaced by PRO Plzeň.
