The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band from Chicago. Formed in 1988 by frontman Billy Corgan, D'arcy Wretzky (bass), James Iha (guitar), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), the band has undergone many line-up changes. The current lineup features Corgan, Chamberlin, Iha and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.
William Patrick Corgan is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and professional wrestling promoter. He is best known as the lead singer, primary songwriter, guitarist, and only permanent member of the rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. He is currently the owner and promoter of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA).
D'arcy Elizabeth Wretzky-Brown is an American musician. She is the original bass player of the alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins and is credited on their first six studio albums. She left the band in 1999.
Machina/The Machines of God is the fifth studio album by the American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released on February 29, 2000, by Virgin Records. A concept album, it marked the return of drummer Jimmy Chamberlin and was intended to be the band's final official LP release prior to their first break up in 2000. A sequel album—Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music—was later released independently via the Internet, and limited quantities for the physical version.

By August 2018, after 34 tracks had been released, Corgan announced via Instagram that the project had been abandoned.

Nicole Margaret Fiorentino is an American bass guitarist. Originally a touring member of the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, she became an official member in 2010. She performs on the band's third Teargarden by Kaleidyscope EP (2011) and subsequent album Oceania (2012). Fiorentino departed the band in 2014.
"Freak" is the second single from The Smashing Pumpkins's scrapped 44-song project, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, and the first song released for the second accompanying EP The Solstice Bare. Like all other songs on the EP, "Freak" was released as a free download on their official website. The song was first played live on July 24, 2009, at the first Spirits in the Sky show in memoriam of Sky Saxon. It was performed live by the Pumpkins throughout their 2010 tours.

Oceania is the eighth studio album by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, released on June 19, 2012, through Martha's Music. Produced by Billy Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud, the album forms part of the band's 34-track project album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, and being the first studio album to feature guitarist Jeff Schroeder, the only album to featured bassist Nicole Fiorentino and drummer Mike Byrne, Byrne was replaced the original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. The album was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number four on the Billboard 200. By September 2012, Oceania had sold over 102,000 copies in the US.
