Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) is the governing body of tennis in Pakistan founded in 1947. It has played a vital role in the development of domestic, national and international tennis in Pakistan, producing a number of young talented players. It also governs teams such as the Pakistan Fed Cup team and the Pakistan Davis Cup team. [1] [2]

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi a renowned Tennis star is the current president of the Federation, [3] while Lt Col Ziauddin Tufail is the secretary general. [4]

History

In 1947, the All Pakistan Lawn Tennis Association was formed after Pakistan gained independence from the United Kingdom. The Association later changed its name to the Pakistan Tennis Federation. [5]

Headquarters

The head office is located at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad. [11] [12] Its construction began during the tenure of former Munir Peerzada, who was the PTF Secretary from 1991 to 1995. He acquired 9.5 acres (76 kanals) of land from the Capital Development Authority on a 99-year lease. It was renamed to Dilawar Abbas Pakistan Tennis Complex, after the former two-time PTF President, [13] in 2009. [14]

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi is a Pakistani professional tennis player who specialises in doubles. He is the only Pakistani player ever to reach a Grand Slam final, having done so in both men's and mixed doubles at the 2010 US Open, alongside Rohan Bopanna and Květa Peschke respectively. Qureshi has also reached seven further major semifinals across the two disciplines. He reached his career-high doubles ranking of world No. 8 in June 2011, and has won 18 titles on the ATP Tour, including the 2011 Paris Masters and 2013 Miami Open, with Bopanna and Jean-Julien Rojer respectively. Qureshi has also qualified for the ATP Finals in doubles on three occasions.

The Pakistan men's national tennis team represent Pakistan in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Pakistan Tennis Federation.

Aqeel Khan is a Pakistani tennis player. He is the current Pakistani number one and National Champion. His favourite surface is Grass. He is coached by Pakistani tennis coach Jamil Khan, who is his father. Aqeel Khan is sponsored by Jaffer Brothers.

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi is a professional tennis player who is the current Pakistani number one doubles player. He has reached two major finals in total:, both at the 2010 US Open. Qureshi has been ranked as high as world No. 8 in the ATP doubles rankings.

Denys Petrovych Molchanov is a Ukrainian tennis player competing on the ATP Challenger Tour. He has won two ATP doubles titles. He has also won 15 ITF singles and 66 doubles titles, 36 of them Challengers. On 5 January 2015 he reached his highest ATP singles ranking of World No. 169, whilst his highest doubles ranking of No. 61 was reached on 30 October 2023. He also played for the Ukraine Davis Cup team.

Tennis is not a very popular sport and Pakistanis compete in very few international events. The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) organises the game in the country.

Saba Aziz is a former Pakistan number one women's tennis player. She represented Pakistan in Fed Cup from 2011-2013.

Bob and Mike Bryan defeated Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in the final, 3–6, 6–3, 6–4, 6–4 to win the gentlemen's doubles title at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. With the victory, the Bryan brothers completed the "Bryan Slam", a non-calendar year Golden Slam, becoming the first doubles team in tennis history to hold all four majors as well as Olympic gold at the same time. The Bryans are also the first men's doubles team in the Open Era to hold all four major titles at once.

Bob and Mike Bryan were the defending champions, but lost in the quarterfinals to Marcel Granollers and Marc López.

Ushna Suhail is a female tennis player from Pakistan. With a world ranking of #943 in 2016, Suhail became and still remains the highest ranked female tennis player in Pakistan's history.

Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in the final, 6–4, 6–4, to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2015 Australian Open. Bolelli and Fognini's victory earned them their first Grand Slam doubles title and their third title overall as a pair. They became the first all-Italian team to win a Grand Slam since Nicola Pietrangeli and Orlando Sirola at the 1959 French Open.

Feliciano López and Marc López defeated Bob and Mike Bryan in the final, 6–4, 6–7(6–8), 6–3 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2016 French Open.

Roger Federer defeated Irakli Labadze in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the boys' singles tennis title at the 1998 Wimbledon Championships. It was Federer's fourth juniors singles title. He would go on to win a record eight senior Wimbledon titles between 2003 and 2017.

Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson were the defending champions, but lost in the final to Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis, 4–6, 4–6. This was the second Wimbledon mixed doubles title for both Murray and Hingis. This was the first time since 1934 that both teams in the final featured a British player.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Khawaja Iftikhar</span> Pakistani tennis player

Khawaja Iftikhar Ahmed was a Pakistani professional tennis player who played for British India before independence and for Pakistan after independence. He was one of the highest ranked players in India from 1940 to 1946, and later retained the position in Pakistan from 1947 to 1956 after the split of Indian subcontinent. He retired from the professional sports in 1962.

Kristina Mladenovic and Ivan Dodig defeated Jaimee Fourlis and Jason Kubler in the final, 6–3, 6–4 to win the mixed doubles tennis title at the 2022 Australian Open. Though it was their first major title as a team, the win earned Mladenovic her third Mixed doubles title and Dodig his fourth.
