They have been used and continue to be used on the flags and banners of many Iranian countries and regions, including Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Kurdistan. Rooted in an ancient tradition that became prominent in the Achaemenid Empire, [1] the pan-Iranian colours and the similar patterns in which they are used symbolize the shared origins of the Iranian peoples. The national flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran, also known as the tricolor, is a tricolor featuring the Pan-Iranian colors comprising equal horizontal bands of green, white and red with the national emblem ("Allah") in red centred on the white band and the takbir written 11 times each in the Kufic script in white, at the bottom of the green and the top of the red band. The emblem was designed by Hamid Nadimi, and was officially approved by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the first supreme leader of Iran, on 9 May 1980.
The East-Azerbaijan Provincial Palace is the main office for Iran's East-Azerbaijan provincial governor in downtown Tabriz. The history of the palace goes back to the Safavid and Zand dynasties, when it was named Aali Qapou. The original construction of the palace was supervised by Najaf Qoli Khan for the Safavid kings, when Tabriz was the capital of Iran. During the Qajar era, Aali Qapu served as the residence for the crown prince of Iran. It was reconstructed and repaired under Naser al-Din Shah, when its name was changed to Shams ol-Emareh. Since the Iranian Constitutional Revolution, the palace has been used as the provincial governorship office.
