The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah ((in English)Sabah People's Ideas Party) or also registered as Parti Gagasan Bersama Rakyat Sabah (often known simply as GAGASAN or PGRS) and better known as Gagasan Rakyat, is a political party based in Sabah, Malaysia mainly to serve as a Sabah-based community and regionalist party. [3] [4] The party was formed and registered on 28 August 2013 by Sabah local politician, Ationg Tituh as a multi-racial Sabah opposition party then with the vision to present the views and will of the original Sabahans to the government. [5] It is only started to be active in 2016 and relatively little-known new party, [6] initially registered as Parti Gagasan Bersama Rakyat Sabah (Parti BERSAMA), was among the latest new parties registration approved by the Registrar of Society (RoS) and just received permission to operate as a political party in 2013. [7] [8] [9] This party is the main component of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) since 9 December 2022. [10]
This political party was formed and registered on 28 August 2013 by Dr. Ationg Tituh as a multi-racial Sabah opposition party then with the vision to present the views and will of the original Sabahans to the government. [5] It is only started to be active in 2016 and relatively little-known new party, [6] initially registered as Parti Gagasan Bersama Rakyat Sabah (Parti BERSAMA), was among the latest new parties registration approved by the Registrar of Society (RoS) under Societies Act 1966 constitution and also just received permission to operate as a political party in 2013. In March 2020, former GAGASAN president Dr. Ationg Tituh, Love Sabah Party (PCS) president Wilfred Bumburing, Sabah Native Co-operation Party (Anak Negeri) president Henrynus Amin and yet-to-be registered Parti Hak Sabah pro tem president James Ligunjang had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to unite the four parties as a new alliance under the existing GAGASAN party with Anifah Aman as the president. [11] GAGASAN is to be renamed, while the three other parties are to be dissolved upon approval from the components’ respective supreme councils according to the plan. [12] However the planned Sabah opposition front merger fizzles out after GAGASAN and Anak Negeri withdraw to pursue their own party agenda as the supposed merger president Anifah had joined PCS and was elected as PCS president instead in July 2020 before the snap state election. On 29 January 2023, Hajiji Noor announced to lead Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN). He said GAGASAN will be used to continue the struggle as a local party in Sabah. GAGASAN was also accepted by the GRS coalition as a component party on December 9, 2022. [10]
The member of parliament for Papar, Armizan Mohd. Ali said four former BERSATU Sabah members of parliament will not join Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah because of the anti-hopping law. Instead, they will remain as direct members of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). [15]
On 5 February 2023, Hajiji Noor has officially taken over Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN) following the party’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). [16]
On 21 February 2023, Yusof Yacob, along with other 8 MLAs support Hajiji. At the same time, Yusof Yacob, James Ratib, Jasnih Daya, Mohd Arsad Bistari, Hamid Awang, Mohammad Mohamarin, Ben Chong Chen Bin and Norazlinah Arif joined GAGASAN. [17]

The main colors used in the Gagasan Rakyat's logo and flag are Red and Blue. Gagasan Rakyat always uses Red and Blue as the party theme because Red symbolizes the Courage of the people to demand the rights of Sabah while the color Blue symbolizes the Unity of the people of Sabah. [10]

The United Sabah Party is a political party of Sabah. The PBS was founded by Joseph Pairin Kitingan in 1985 and it is Sabah's oldest local party. In August 2020, PBS confirmed that they would be using their own logo and flag until Sabah's local coalition is established under Registrar of Societies (RoS). In 2022, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is the only Sabah's local coalition that has been successfully registered under the Registrar of Societies (RoS) making PBS interested in using the coalition's logo and becoming part of the coalition's component.
Anifah bin Haji Aman @ Haniff Amman is a Malaysian politician who has served as Senator since March 2023, Chairman of the Labuan Corporation since June 2023, Special Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sabah Hajiji Noor on International Relations and Foreign Investments since January 2023 and the 3rd President of the Love Sabah Party (PCS) since July 2020. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Primary Industries and Deputy Minister of Primary Industries in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Ministers Mahathir Mohamad, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak and former Ministers Lim Keng Yaik and Peter Chin Fah Kui from December 1999 to the collapse of the BN administration in May 2018 as well as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Beaufort from November 1999 to March 2004 and for Kimanis from March 2004 to August 2019 and for Beaufort from November 1999 to March 2004. He is a member of the PCS and was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the BN coalition before leaving it to be an independent in September 2018 and joining PCS in 2020.
The Malaysian United Indigenous Party, abbreviated BERSATU or PPBM, is a nationalist political party in Malaysia. The party was preceded by the United Indigenous Association of Malaysia. It is a major component party within the Perikatan Nasional coalition. BERSATU was approved and registered on 14 January 2017 by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) and the use of the BERSATU logo was authorized by the Malaysian Election Commission (SPR). The party held the Prime Ministerial position as well as the majority of positions in the cabinet from May 2020 to August 2021. The party's founding members came from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and Barisan Nasional rebel group Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia in 2016.
Sabah People's Hope Party is a Sabah-based party located in Tawau city. Its ideology is based on Sabah regionalism which supports Sabah state administration by local-based parties and to reduce the control of peninsula-based parties over the state, such as Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional.
The National Alliance is a political coalition composed of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party, Malaysian Islamic Party, Malaysian People's Movement Party, Sabah Progressive Party and Malaysian Indian People's Party This coalition was preceded by the Malaysian Party Alliance Association, also known as the Persatuan Perikatan Parti Malaysia (PPPM). It is the second largest political coalition in Dewan Rakyat with 74 seats after Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 81 seats.
Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 16th Chief Minister of Sabah since 2020 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sulaman since 1990. He is also the first official chairman of political coalition party in Sabah, the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah Party and 3rd President of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN).
Mohammad bin Mohamarin is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Banggi since May 2018. He served as the State Assistant Minister of Education and Innovation of Sabah in the Heritage Party (WARISAN) state administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal and former State Minister Yusof Yacob from May 2018 to the collapse of WARISAN state administration in September 2020. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), a component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. He was member of the WARISAN and United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Datuk Yusof bin Yacob is a Malaysian politician who has served as Chairman of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad since January 2023 and the Member of Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sindumin since May 2018. He served as State Minister of Education and Innovation of Sabah in the Heritage Party (WARISAN) state administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal from May 2018 to the collapse of the WARISAN administration in September 2020, Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat from May 2004 to December 2007 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sipitang from April 1995 to March 2008. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), a component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. He was a member of the WARISAN, before leaving the party on 8 October 2021 to become an independent in support of the ruling GRS coalition. He was also member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) which he left in 2018. On 22 May 2022, he confirmed that he had applied to rejoin and was pending return to BN and UMNO after leaving them four years ago. However, his application was not accepted before he withdrew the application and joined GAGASAN instead on 21 January 2023.
Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan is a Malaysian politician who has served as the State Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor since October 2022 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Apas since May 2018. He served as State Assistant Minister of Finance in the GRS state administration under Chief Minister and Minister Hajiji from October 2020 to October 2022. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), a component party of the GRS coalition. He has also served as the Information Chief and Division Chief of Apas of GAGASAN since February 2023.
James bin Ratib is a Malaysian politician who served as Sugut N.48 Division Chief of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN) and also an official member of Sugut Division of GRS-GAGASAN. He is also a politician who has served as the State Minister of Community Development and People's Wellbeing of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor since January 2023 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sugut since May 2013. He served as the State Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Sabah in the GRS state administration under Hajiji and Minister Jeffrey Kitingan from October 2020 to his promotion to full ministership of a different portfolio in January 2023. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), a major component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition and was formerly a member of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO).
Datuk Isnin bin Aliasnih is a Malaysian politician who has served as the State Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and Ministers Masidi Manjun and Joachim Gunsalam since October 2020 as well as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Klias since May 2018. He served as the State Youth Chief of Sabah BERSATU and Division Youth Chief of BERSATU of Kota Belud.He left Sabah BERSATU on 10 December 2022 and joined GAGASAN on 5 February 2023.
The Anwar Ibrahim cabinet is the current federal cabinet of Malaysia, formed on 3 December 2022, nine days after Anwar Ibrahim took office as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia. The composition of the cabinet was announced by Anwar a day earlier on 2 December 2022, consisting of most of the political coalitions and parties represented in the 15th Parliament. Although Perikatan Nasional (PN) was also invited to join the government, it decided to decline the invitation and instead formed the opposition. The government is often referred to as "unity government".
United Malays National Organisation of Sabah, also abbreviated as Sabah UMNO, is a branch of the United Malays National Organisation in Sabah, Malaysia. Sabah UMNO supported and was part of the federal government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Sabah UMNO also had one elected representatives holding a deputy ministerial positions respectively in the Anwar Ibrahim cabinet.
The 2023 Sabah political crisis or widely reported on local media as Langkah Kinabalu or the Kinabalu Move, began on 6 January 2023, when the state government of Sabah led by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) collapsed when its coalition party Barisan Nasional (BN) withdrew its support. The Leader of UMNO Sabah, a component party of BN, Bung Moktar Radin, Kinabatangan Member of Parliament (MP) and Lamag Assemblyman, cited a lack of confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister of Sabah Hajiji Noor in the withdrawal. UMNO Sabah want to change support from supporting GRS coalition to supporting the WARISAN Plus coalition. On 9 January, both Malaysian leaders, prime minister Anwar Ibrahim and deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi travelled to Kota Kinabalu to meet with Sabah political leaders. This crisis resulted in the approval of the Anti-Switching Parties Law in Sabah (approved in 25 May 2023).
Ationg Tituh is a Malaysian politician from Sabah region. He is the one who established and started the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), and also the inaugural president of the local party on 28 August 2013. His political party is among the 20 official political parties registered in 2013.
In Malaysian politics, a frog refers to an act where a politician crosses the bench from one party to another (changing support). This term was first coined in during the 1994 Sabah state elections after United Sabah Party losing its majority even the party won the state elections. Despite its usage nationwide, it is more familiar within the state of Sabah. Since May 25, 2023, nine (9) states of Malaysia has approved the Parties hopping prevention law also known as the "Anti-Switching Parties Law" or "Anti-Hopping Parties Law" for both Parliament and State legislative assembly including Sabah and Sarawak.
