        Bilston, Midlothian Human settlement in Scotland

        Bilston is a small village in Midlothian, Scotland. It is located on the edge of Edinburgh, just south of Loanhead on the A701. The Bilston Burn Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) was occupied from 2002 until the mid-2010s by protestors who successfully opposed plans for a bypass.

        2007 Midlothian Council election

        Elections to Midlothian Council were held on 3 May 2007, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections and the Scottish Parliament general election. The election was the first one using six new wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004. Each ward will elect three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation. The new wards replace 18 single-member wards which used the plurality system of election.

        Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale (Scottish Parliament constituency) Region or constituency of the Scottish Parliament

        Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood) covering parts of the council areas of Midlothian and Scottish Borders. Created for the 2011 election, it elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality method of election. It is one of nine constituencies in the South Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.

        The 2017 Midlothian Council election took place on 4 May 2017 to elect members of Midlothian Council. The election used the six wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with each ward electing three Councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation, with 18 Councillors being elected.

        Liberton/Gilmerton (Edinburgh ward)

        Liberton/Gilmerton is one of the seventeen wards used to elect members of the City of Edinburgh Council. Established in 2007 along with the other wards, it elects four Councillors.

        Turriff and District (ward)

        Turriff and District is one of the nineteen wards used to elect members of the Aberdeenshire Council. Until 2017 three councillors were elected in this ward following the fifth statutory Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland review 2016, now Turriff and District elects four Councillors.

        East Kilbride Central North (ward)

        East Kilbride Central North is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it currently elects three councillors. As the name suggests, its territory covers the parts of East Kilbride just north of the town centre with the southern boundary being the Queensway (A726) dual carriageway, including the central retail and administrative area itself as well as the neighbourhoods of East Mains, Kirktonholme, the Village and West Mains, most of St Leonards and part of Calderwood. A 2017 national review removed a few streets in the east of the ward which had only a small effect on the electorate but caused the loss of one seat from the original four to balance with other wards with similar populations but only three seats. In 2019, the population was 16,799.

        2022 Scottish local elections

        The 2022 Scottish local elections were held on 5 May 2022, as part of the 2022 United Kingdom local elections. All 1,227 seats across all 32 Scottish local authorities were up for election and voter turnout was 44.8%.

        Saltcoats and Stevenston is one of the nine wards used to elect members of the North Ayrshire council. It was originally created in 2007 and elected four Councillors; as its name suggests, it covered the adjoining small towns of Saltcoats on the Firth of Clyde coast and Stevenston just inland. A national boundary review prior to the 2017 local elections saw the ward abolished in favour of two three-member wards for each town; however this was reversed after the introduction of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018: North Ayrshire's wards were re-organised for the 2022 election with Saltcoats and Stevenston re-instated, now electing five members. In 2020, the combined population of the two smaller wards was 25,513.

        2022 Midlothian Council election

        The 2022 Midlothian Council election took place on 5 May 2022 as part of the 2022 Scottish local elections. The council is composed of six wards, each electing three councillors.
