Phoenix Military Academy is a public military high school in Chicago Illinois, United States.

History

Phoenix Military Academy, (Commonly abbreviated as PMA) was founded in 2004 and originally located in the same building as Orr Academy High School. It has since been moved to Grant Campus or the older location of Orr.

Academics

All students are required to attain 24 credits to graduate. In addition to usual core subjects such as English and the sciences, students also take two years of foreign language, Two years of the arts and are mandated to take classes to prepare for ROTC. [1]

In June 2015, it was announced that PMA was awarded a $6 million DOD grant for a new STEM and Leadership Academy Pilot Program. [2] [3]

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is a broad term used to group together these academic disciplines. Kenwood Academy is a public 4–year high school and middle school located in the Hyde Park–Kenwood neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Operated by the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) district, Kenwood opened in 1969. Kenwood limits acceptance of high school students to those living in its attendance area: from Lake Michigan to Cottage Grove Avenue east to west, and 47th to the Midway Plaisance north to south. The school is bounded by E. Hyde Park Boulevard on the south, S. Lake Park Avenue on the east, S. Blackstone Avenue on the west, and E. 50th Street on the north. The school's football field, however, extends the campus north to E. 49th Street along S. Lake Park Avenue. Millennium High School is a selective public high school for grades 9 through 12 in Manhattan. José Martí MAST 6-12 Academy, also known as JMMA 6-12 or MAST 3, is a magnet school incorporating grades 6 through 12 in Hialeah, Florida. Established in 1987 as José Martí Middle School, it introduced its magnet program with a high school expansion in 2011.

Philippine Military Academy

The Philippine Military Academy is the premier military academy for Filipinos aspiring for a commission as a military officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). It was established on December 21, 1936 by the virtue of National Defense Act of 1935. It is patterned after the United States Military Academy. The Academy is located in the city of Baguio. It is the training school for future officers of the AFP.

Bio-Med Science Academy School in Rootstown, Ohio, United States

Bio-Med Science Academy is a public STEM+M school in Portage County, Ohio, United States. The school's original location, now known as the Rootstown campus, is on the campus of Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, and houses grades 7 through 12. The school, originally a grades 9–12 high school, has expanded to include lower grade levels, with grades 5 and 6 at its Ravenna campus and grades 2, 3, and 4 at the Shalersville campus. Bio-Med opened as a community charter school in August 2012, but in April 2013 the school received a formal STEM designation for the State of Ohio. This new designation required the closing of the community school which occurred June 30, 2013, and the opening of Bio-Med Science Academy STEM School on July 1, 2013. With its new title it became an official independent and public STEM school.
