The Presbyterian Church of Bangladesh (PCB) is a Reformed Churches conservative and evangelical in Bangladesh. [4] [5] Formed in 1995 by Rev. Edward Ayub, a former Muslim convert to Christianity, with the assistance of Presbyterian Church in America . [6] [7]

History

The Presbyterian churches originate from the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. It is the Christian churches Protestant that adhere to Reformed theology and whose ecclesiastical government is characterized by the government of an assembly of elders. [8] Government Presbyterian is common in Protestant churches that were modeled after the Reformation Protestant Switzerland, notably in Switzerland, Scotland, Netherlands,  France and portions of Prussia, of Ireland and later in United States. [9]

In 1984, Reverend Edward Ayub, a former Muslim, was converted to Christianity. Later, in 1995, inspired by Asian Christian missionaries, and with the help of Presbyterian Church in America, he founded the Presbyterian Church of Bangladesh [3] [2] [10] [11]

Between 1996 and 1997, the denomination received assistance from Korean Presbyterian missionaries. [12]

The Presbyterian Church of Bangladesh today

Today the PCB works on church planting among the country's Muslim communities, so that most of its members are ex-Islamic converts to Christianity. [13]

The church relies on financial and missionary support from Presbyterian Church in America to plant churches in Bangladesh. [14] [15] [16] In addition, in 2015, greater involvement between the two churches was sought. [17]

The PCB is a member of the World Reformed Fellowship [1] which is a worldwide organization that brings together conservative Reformed churches. However, the church has a conservative rather than ecumenical missionary vision. [18] [19]

The terms Eastern Protestant Christianity and Oriental Protestant Christianity encompass a range of heterogeneous Protestant Christian denominations that developed outside of the Occident from the latter half of the nineteenth century, and yet keep elements of Eastern Christianity to varying degrees. Most of these denominations came into being when existing Protestant Churches adopted Reformational variants of Orthodox Christian liturgy and worship; others resulted from reformations of Orthodox Christian beliefs and practices, inspired by the teachings of Western Protestant missionaries. Some Eastern Protestant Churches are in communion with similar Western Protestant Churches. However, Eastern Protestant Christianity, within itself, does not constitute a single communion. This is due to the diverse polities, practices, liturgies and orientations of the denominations which fall under this category.

The Presbyterian Church of India (PCI) is a mainline Protestant church based in India, with over one million adherents, mostly in Northeast India. It is one of the largest Christian denominations in that region.

Presbyterian Church of Brazil Evangelical Protestant Christian denomination in Brazil

The Presbyterian Church of Brazil is an Evangelical Protestant Christian denomination in Brazil. Oldest of the Reformed family of Protestantism in Brazil. It is the largest Presbyterian denomination in the country, having an estimate 649,510 members, 4,475 ordained ministers and 5,068 churches and parishes. It is also the only Presbyterian denomination in Brazil present in all 26 States and the Federal District. It was founded by the American missionary Rev. Ashbel Green Simonton, who also oversaw the formal organization of the first congregation and the first Presbytery. Although the Presbyterian Church of Rio de Janeiro was only formally organized in January 1863, and the Brazilian church only left the jurisdiction of the joint missions board of the American churches in 1888, when the Synod was formed, the denomination considers the date of Simonton's arrival in Brazil, August 12, 1859, as its foundation date.

The Covenant Presbyterian Church (CPC) is a Protestant, Reformed denomination, founded in United States in 2006 by a group of churches that split from the Reformed Presbyterian Church General Assembly for supporting paedocommunion.

The Presbyterian Church of the Philippines (PCP), officially The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the Philippines, is a growing evangelical, Bible-based Reformed church in the Philippines. It was officially founded in 1987 and the General Assembly was organized in September 1996.

The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Taiwan was officially established in 1971 when the First Presbytery was formed as a result of the union of various conservative Presbyterian and Continental Reformed congregations planted by various missionary groups. Its origin could be traced back to the 1950s when the very first missionaries of those Presbyterian and Continental Reformed missionaries arrived in Taiwan.

In South Korea, there are roughly 20.5 million Christians of whom 15 million are Protestants; of those some 9 to 10 million are Presbyterians. Presbyterians in South Korea worship in over 100 different Presbyterian denominational churches who trace their history back to the United Presbyterian Assembly.

The Presbyterian Church in Cambodia or Presbyterian Church of Cambodia (PCC), officially Synod Presbyterian Church in Cambodia, is a denomination Reformed Presbyterian, founded in Cambodia, in 1993, by Korean Presbyterian missionaries and the Presbyterian Church in Singapore.
