History

In July 2006, following the takeover of Patrick Corporation by Toll Holdings, Chris Corrigan and some executives departed and teamed with Kaplan Funds Management to explore logistics opportunities. In January 2007, the KFM Diversified Infrastructure & Logistics Fund was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. [1]

In April 2007, a 75% shareholding in P&O Automotive & General Stevedoring and 50% shareholding in P&O Trans Australia were acquired from DP World. [2]

In June 2010, the KFM Diversified Infrastructure & Logistics Fund was renamed Qube Logistics. [3] [4] [5] In April 2011, Qube exercised an option to take its ownership in P&O Trans Australia up to 95%. [6] [7] [8] In 2012, Qube purchased Independent Rail of Australia. [9]

In January 2015 Qube acquired ISO limited in New Zealand.

As part of the break up of Asciano, Qube purchased a 50% stake in Patrick Corporation in August 2016. [10]

In 2019, Qube acquired Chalmers Industries and LCR Group. In September 2021, Newcastle Agri Terminal was acquired. [11] [12]

In May 2023, Qube acquired Kalari Proprietary Limited from Swire Investments (Australia) Ltd and a 50% stake in Pinnacle, a New Zealand owned and operated group of companies. [13] [14] In November 2023 Qube acquired the remaining 50% in Pinnacle along with Stevenson Logistics in North Fremantle and Agri Rail Terminal in Narrabri. [15]

Operations

Ports and bulk

Qube has freight handling and stevedoring facilities at 29 ports in Australia through its subsidiaries P&O Automotive and General Stevedoring, Northern Stevedoring Services, Australian Amalgamated Terminals, PrixCar and the W Qube joint venture between Qube and Wilhelmsen Ships Service. It is also a 50% joint venture partner in Patrick Corporation.

Logistics

Qube Logistics operates road and rail services. Qube operates rail freight services in regional New South Wales and Victoria, and between Melbourne and Adelaide. In January 2022, Qube commenced operating a contract to transport BlueScope products from its steel works at Port Kembla to Melbourne and Brisbane. [16] It owns the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal in Sydney. [17]

Southern & Silverton Rail was an Australian rail operator founded in 1886 as the Silverton Tramway Company. The company operated the 1067 mm Silverton Tramway, conveying silver-lead-zinc concentrates 58 kilometres from Broken Hill to the South Australian border. In 1970, its main line was bypassed by the newly standardised, government-funded line from Broken Hill to Port Pirie. It then diversified to operating hook-and-pull services and in the mid-1990s rebranded to Silverton Rail. In 2006, it was purchased by South Spur Rail Services and rebranded again as Southern & Silverton Rail, before both entities were sold to Coote Industrial. In June 2010 it was sold to Qube Logistics and absorbed into that brand.

The HVCC essentially follows the path of the Hunter River travelling south-east from the mining areas in the Hunter Valley to Newcastle.

Asciano Limited was an Australian freight logistics company, operating in railway freight and shipping. Asciano was demerged from Toll Holdings in 2007, and owned Patrick Corporation and Pacific National as subsidiary companies. Asciano specialised in bulk and container shipping and transportation, with port and train operations across Australia. It had over 8,000 employees. It was an ASX 50 company.

CRT Group is an intermodal transport company in Australia. It was founded in 1954 as Colin Rees Transport, a taxi truck company in Sydney. In 1981 it became known as the CRT Group, and by the time of its acquisition by QR National in June 2005, was in the top 10 logistics companies in Australia with a turnover of $80 million, and moving over 600,000 tonnes of freight a year. The company specialised in the movement of food products, polymers, and plastics.

The Newcastle Agri Terminal (NAT) is an intermodal dry bulk cargo port operator located in Carrington, New South Wales. It is located within the Carrington Precinct of the Port of Newcastle utilising the Dyke 2 berth.

Howard Smith Limited was an Australian industrial company. Founded in 1854 as a shipping company, it later diversified into coal mining, steel production, stevedoring, travel, railway rolling stock building, sugar production and retail. Its divisions began to be sold off in the 1990s with the remainder taken over by Wesfarmers in August 2001.

The Moorebank Intermodal Terminal is an intermodal terminal under construction in the south-western Sydney suburb of Moorebank.

The Holsworthy railway line was located in South-western Sydney. It was constructed during World War I, mainly using labour from the Holsworthy Internment Camp. Its purpose was to service the Holsworthy army facilities opening on 21 January 1918.
