Mor Severios Abraham is a Syriac Orthodox bishop. As of 2013, he is the Metropolitan of Angamali region of the Angamali Diocese and Abbott of Mor Gabriel Dayro (Monastery). He is the most senior metropolitan in the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church.

Early years

Abraham Alukkal was born as member of the Alukkal family in Peechanikkad, Ankamali on 12 July 1941. In 1965 he was ordained deacon by Mor Gregorios Geevarghese Vayaliparambil of Ankamali. In the same year he was ordained by Mor Gregorios as 'Kasshisso'.

Education

He graduated from Community College, Chicago and completed his theological studies from Russian Leningrad Theological Academy and Theological College at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He obtained his Th.D. degree from Pacific Western University (California). Abraham served as the vicar of St. Peter's Church in Chicago under Archbishop Mor Athanasius Yeshue Samuel from 1979 to 1981. Before this, he was at the Thrikkunnathu Seminary in Aluva. In 1982, the Ankamali Diocesan Council, held under Dionysius Thomas (Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I), chose Abraham as the Assistant Metropolitan of the Diocese.

Ordination

Abraham was ordained metropolitan in the name Mor Severios on 6 March 1982, in a ceremony presided by Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas and assisted by the Catholicose Aboon Mor Baselios Paulose II at the Marthoman Cheriapally, Kothamangalam. Mor Severios Abraham is the only prelate ordained by Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas in Malankara.

Charity works

After assuming charge as the auxiliary bishop of Ankamali Diocese, Abraham Mor Severios commenced many charity programs. He founded the Guardian Angel Institution in 1985. A list of few institutions started by Severios are:

The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church (JSCC), or the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in India also known as Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, the Jacobite Syrian Church, and the Syriac Orthodox Church in India, is a catholicate based in Kerala, India, of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and part of the Oriental Orthodox Church. It recognizes the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East as supreme head of the church. It functions autonomously within the church, administered by the Metropolitan Trustee, under the authority of the Maphrian of India, Baselios Thomas I. Mor Themotheos Thomas is the Metropolitan of Kottayam Diocese and Secretary to the Holy Episcopal Synod of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church. Mor Themotheos Thomas was ordained as the Metropolitan of the Outside Kerala Diocese on 3 January 1991 by Mor Baselios Paulose II Catholicos of the East .

The Catholicos of India, earlier known as the Catholicos of the East is an ecclesiastical office in the Syriac Orthodox Church. He is the Catholicos and spiritual leader and regional head of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, the Indian body of the Syriac Orthodox Church, and functions at an ecclesiastical rank second only to the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch, and his name is commemorated in liturgy throughout the Syriac Orthodox Archdioceses in India. Kuriakose Mor Clemis was appointed as the Metropolitan of Idukki Diocese. Since May, 2020 he is the Metropolitan of Thrissur Diocese. Mor Clemis Kuriakose Metropolitan is also the former President of St. Paul's Mission of India. On December 26, 2019, Ignatius Aphrem II Patriarch appointed Bishop Clemis Kuriakose as Metropolitan of Thrissur Diocese based on the synod of Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church.
