Janae Nierah Wherry (born April 15, 1998), known professionally as Sexyy Red, is an American rapper. She rose to prominence with the release of her 2023 single "Pound Town" (with Tay Keith); its popularity spawned the remixed sequel "Pound Town 2" (with Nicki Minaj), which became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Her follow-up single, "SkeeYee" was met with similar success as both were included on her second mixtape, Hood Hottest Princess (2023). Her 2024 single, "Get It Sexyy" peaked within the top 20 of the chart.
In 2023, Wherry guest performed on the official remixes of the singles "Shake Sumn" by DaBaby, "Slut Me Out" by NLE Choppa, and "Peaches & Eggplants" by Young Nudy, alongside rapper Latto, all of which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. She also guest featured alongside SZA on Drake's single "Rich Baby Daddy" that same year, which peaked at number 11 on the chart and was accompanied by a viral music video in which Wherry delivers her second child.
Billboard declared her as "one of the biggest breakout artists of summer 2023." [3] She received a nomination for "Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist" at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. Her public image, lyrics, and media presence have been described as brazenly sexual, boisterous, and confident. [4]
Janae Nierah Wherry was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Wherry started rapping after penning a diss track directed towards a boyfriend who cheated on her. The stage name "Sexyy Red" was adapted from others giving her the nickname "Red" due to her red dyed hair, and her aim for sex appeal. An extra "y" was added to differentiate her from an Instagram personality of a homophonous name. [5] She graduated from Normandy High School in Missouri. [6]
Red released her first song "Ah Thousand Jugs" in 2018. In 2021, she released her debut mixtape Ghetto Superstar. [7]
In January 2023, she released "Pound Town" with Tay Keith, which later went viral on social media. [8] In April, she was featured on the remix of NLE Choppa's "Slut Me Out". [9] In May that same year, she released "Pound Town 2" with Nicki Minaj, which became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. In June, she released the mixtape Hood Hottest Princess . [10] In August 2023, Red joined Drake on his It's All a Blur Tour as an opening act, having appeared as a guest at previous shows. [11] Released in October, she co-performed alongside SZA on his single "Rich Baby Daddy", the third single from Drake's eighth album For All the Dogs . [12]
On May 28, 2024, Red appeared at WWE NXT where she presented the new NXT Women's North American Championship. It was also revealed that she will host Battleground event. [13]
Growing up, Red listened to artists such as Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Project Pat, Juicy J, Three 6 Mafia, Chief Keef, Webbie, Boosie BadAzz, and Trina. [5] [14] [15] Kyle Denis remarked in Billboard that those artists "embody the unapologetically hood energy that now courses through every Sexyy Red song", with Red herself stating that she sought to emulate their "fearlessness". [14] She has frequently been called the "Female Gucci Mane" in particular and released a song with that title on her mixtape Hood Hottest Princess. [5]
"I agree with that ["pussy rap" classification], because why is that the only thing you heard me talking about? That's the only thing that you got out of everything I just said? You just heard me say 'coochie'? I hate when they say that. I just rap about my daily life. Girls that live like me, I just rap about what we go through. I don't sit and talk about coochie all day."
– Sexyy Red discussing her lyrical themes [14]
Red's lyrics focus on one-sentence phrases rather than metaphors and other devices, with Jayson Buford of Rolling Stone writing that "she abstains from traditional lyricism". He also described her as a "classic Southern rapper". [15] In Complex , Eric Skelton called her songs "full of viral lyrics". [5] Red has stated that her daily life serves as the main inspiration for her music. Due to the often highly sexual nature of her lyrics, she has been characterized as a prominent figure of "pussy rap", although she rejects this classification and has expressed exasperation over being reduced to her sexual songs. [5] [14] Red is also noted for her distinctive voice and flow. [14] [15] She has received praise for her "authenticity" and her "energy", which are cited as factors for her success with a broad audience. [14]
Sexyy Red has been compared with television personality Sukihana as being too raunchy and not being good influences for black women. American Rapper Trina stood up for the two in an interview with One Musicfest. Trina stated that these two should be able to be who they want and that they have the freedom of speech to say whatever they want in their music. Another Hip hop star Khia stated that she hates being compared to these women with bad intentions and have negative influences. Red later made a statement saying "she's old and washed and should not be such a hater". [16]
Red's first child, a son, was born in 2020. [15] On October 15, 2023, she announced that she was pregnant with her second child in an Instagram post. [17] [18] She gave birth to her second child on February 5, 2024, and footage of her in the delivery room was the center of Drake's music video for "Rich Baby Daddy", released nine days later. [19]
In August 2023, Red disclosed on a podcast that she was a victim of rape. [20]
Red, having expressed affinity for former U.S. president Donald Trump, utilizes the phrase "Make America Sexyy Again" as part of her branding. [21] [22]

The Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart ranks the most popular R&B and hip hop songs in the United States and is published weekly by Billboard. Rankings are based on a measure of radio airplay, sales data, and streaming activity. The chart had 100 positions but was shortened to 50 positions in October 2012.
The discography of American disc jockey DJ Khaled consists of thirteen studio albums which contain 54 singles ; his videography consists of at least 58 music videos. Khaled's value proposition is his extensive network of artists of whom he enlists to perform on studio recordings. While first accumulating such connections from his work as a live DJ and radio personality, he's since become known himself for numerous quips and phrases uttered on these records—many of which became Internet memes. Furthermore, his interviews, quotes, or other presentative qualities have often been described as "motivational" or "inspirational". Despite commercial success, the albums in Khaled's discography have often garnered largely mixed receptions from music critics.
Solána Imani Rowe, known professionally as SZA, is an American singer-songwriter. She first gained recognition through her self-released extended plays (EPs), See.SZA.Run (2012) and S (2013), which helped her become the first female artist to sign with Top Dawg Entertainment. Her third EP, Z (2014), was her first project to be released to digital retailers and reached the top-ten on the US Independent Albums chart.
Ctrl is the debut studio album by American singer SZA. It was released through Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records on June 9, 2017. The album features guest appearances from Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy, and Isaiah Rashad. Production was handled by Craig Balmoris, Frank Dukes, Carter Lang, Scum, and ThankGod4Cody, among others. The album was supported by five singles: "Drew Barrymore", "Love Galore", "The Weekend", "Broken Clocks", and "Garden ", all of which are certified Platinum or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
American singer-songwriter SZA has released two studio albums, three extended plays (EPs), one live album, and 44 singles. SZA debuted with her self-released EP See.SZA.Run in 2012, followed by the 2013 EP S, gaining the attention of the independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment. She signed to Top Dawg as the label's first woman artist in 2013 and released her third EP, Z, a year later. After Z, she began work on her debut studio album, Ctrl (2017), which debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200, peaked at number two on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and has charted for more than five subsequent years. The album, alongside its Billboard Hot 100 top-40 singles "Love Galore" and "The Weekend", earned her three of her first five Grammy nominations, in 2018. All singles from Ctrl have been certified platinum or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America.
"In a Minute" is a song by American rapper Lil Baby. It was released a single through Quality Control Music and Motown on April 8, 2022, concurrently with another single, "Right On". The song was produced by Kaigoinkrazy and co-produced by Haze. It samples English singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding's track, "Don't Say a Word", from her second studio album, Halcyon (2012) and Canadian rapper Drake's 2013 Jay-Z-assisted, "Pound Cake / Paris Morton Music 2" from Drake's third studio album, Nothing Was the Same.
"Mr. Right Now" is a song by British-American rapper 21 Savage and American record producer Metro Boomin from their collaborative album Savage Mode II. "Blind" is a song by American singer-songwriter SZA from her second studio album, SOS (2022). It is a beatless R&B and folk-pop song, featuring an orchestral production that consists of acoustic guitars, violas, and trumpets. SZA's vocal performance combines a rap cadence and slow falsetto vocals, with added vocal runs. In the song, SZA explores the duality of love and muses on a former relationship, as she expresses her disappointment to a toxic past partner while also expressing her continued attraction to him. For the chorus, SZA admits her insecurities in spite of seeking validation through sex, feeling empty and unable to find self-love within herself as a result of a failed romance. "Blind" also incorporates several pop culture references to figures such as Bob Saget and Jesus.
"Kill Bill" is a song by American singer-songwriter SZA and the fifth single from her second studio album, SOS (2022). It is a pop and R&B murder ballad, built around a midtempo, groovy rhythm and a detuned melody. Guitars, a bassline, and a flute that was sampled from a Prophet-6 synthesizer constitute the song's production, which is influenced by the boom bap subgenre of hip hop. Mirroring the plot of the Kill Bill film duology (2003–2004) after which the song is named, the lyrics discuss a fantasy to kill an ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend out of jealousy, and they employ humorous irony alongside violent imagery that contrasts with SZA's soft vocals. "Kill Bill" was sent to US radio on January 10, 2023, after achieving success on streaming services.
"Shake Sumn" is a song by American rapper DaBaby from his EP Call da Fireman (2023). It was sent to rhythmic contemporary radio on June 6, 2023 as the lead single from the EP. The song was produced by Charlie Heat. An official remix with American rapper Sexyy Red was released on July 7, 2023.

The three artists wrote the song with producers Gordo, Liohn, and Klahr, and co-producers Bnyx, Dougie F, the Loud Pack, and UV Killin Em, alongside Florence Welch, Isabella Summers, and T. Schaeferdieck, due to the song interpolating "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + the Machine.
