Simon Ball (born 1976) [1] [2] is a former American professional ballet dancer and was as a principal dancer with the Houston Ballet and the Boston Ballet. [3]

Early life and education

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ball trained with the School of American Ballet, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, The Conservatory of Point Park College, and American Ballet Theatre's School of Classical Ballet. At the age of 18, he received a gold medal from the 1994 USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, [1] [2] and a gold medal at the 1994 Rudolf Nureyev International Ballet Competition in Budapest, Hungary. Career

After spending time performing as a guest artist in the United States and abroad, Ball joined Boston Ballet as member of the corps de ballet in 1995. He was promoted to soloist in 1996 and principal in 1999. He left Boston in 2003 to join Houston Ballet as a principal dancer. [3]

His repertoire includes Prince in The Sleeping Beauty , the slave in Le Corsaire , Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, the prince in Cinderella , Albrecht in Giselle , Romeo in Romeo and Juliet , Basilio in Don Quixote , Siegfried in Swan Lake , Colas in La Fille mal gardée , Vershinin in Winter Dreams, and Ivan in The Firebird . In 1999, he was invited to perform at the Benois de la Danse in Berlin, Germany. [3]

Personal life

Ball's sister April is a Principal Dancer with Les Ballets de Monte Carlo [4] and former principal dancer with Boston Ballet. [5] In 1996 he married Frances Perez, while both were dancing with the Boston Ballet. [5] [6]

Carlos Yunior Acosta Quesada CBE is a Cuban-British ballet director and retired dancer who is director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet. He danced with many companies including the English National Ballet, National Ballet of Cuba, Houston Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. He was a permanent member of The Royal Ballet from 1998 to 2015. In 2003, he was promoted to principal guest artist, a rank which reduced his commitment, enabling him to concentrate on a growing schedule of international guest appearances and tours. He celebrated his farewell after 17 years at The Royal Ballet, dancing his last performance in November 2015 in Carmen, which he both choreographed and starred in.

Misa Kuranaga is a Japanese ballerina. She is a principal dancer at the San Francisco Ballet. She was formerly a dancer at Boston Ballet, and was the first Asian person to be promoted to principal dancer there.

The Original Ballet Russe was a ballet company established in 1931 by René Blum and Colonel Wassily de Basil as a successor to the Ballets Russes, founded in 1909 by Sergei Diaghilev. The company assumed the new name Original Ballet Russe after a split between de Basil and Blum. De Basil led the renamed company, while Blum and others founded a new company under the name Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo. It was a large scale professional ballet company which toured extensively in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the United States, and Central and South America. It closed down operations in 1947.

César Morales Anderson is a Chilean ballet dancer who, as of February 2014, is a principal dancer with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Born in Rancagua, Chile, César Morales began dancing at the age of eleven at the Ballet School of the Municipal Theatre of Santiago, where he trained for three years before being offered a scholarship by Ben Stevenson to train at the academy of Houston Ballet. He returned to Santiago at the age of fifteen to complete his training and Ivan Nagy offered him a contract to join the Ballet de Santiago. After a year in the Corps de Ballet, he was promoted to soloist and a year later to principal dancer immediately after his first performance of Swan Lake. Morales danced with the Ballet de Santiago until 2003, when he moved to Paris to work as a freelance guest artist, dancing in Paris, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. He went on to join the English National Ballet in 2004, was Principal Guest Artist with Vienna Staatsoper in 2006 and then joined the Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2008.

Irek Dzhavdotovich Mukhamedov OBE, is a Soviet-born British ballet dancer of Tatar origin who has danced with the Bolshoi Ballet and the Royal Ballet. Born in Kazan, he trained at the Moscow Choreographic Institute under the guidance of Alexander Prokofiev between 1970 and 1978. Upon graduation, he joined the Classical Ballet Company, where he spent three years touring around the world. It was with this company that he first danced Romeo, a role that was to become one of his most acclaimed. In 1981 he won the Grand Prix and gold medal at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow and was immediately invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet as a principal dancer, where he not only became Grigorovich's favourite danseur but went to become the youngest man ever to dance the leading role in Spartacus.

The HARID Conservatory is a ballet professional-training school for high-school age students. It was established in 1987 and is located in Boca Raton, Florida. A four-year curriculum is offered that includes ballet and related dance courses. Academic coursework is provided on campus through Florida Virtual School. HARID is recognized as a high school by the State of Florida. HARID additionally offered a four-year, tuition-free college music program from 1991 until 1999, when the music program was transferred to Lynn University.

He danced with the English National Ballet for nine years, five as a principal dancer, before joining The Australian Ballet as a principal artist in January 2008, where he remained until April 2013. He joined Cincinnati Ballet as a principal dancer in August 2014 where he remained until the end of that season - May 2015. He is currently contracted to Colorado Ballet in Denver as a principal dancer, having commenced in August 2015.

Vladimir Djouloukhadze, or Juluhadze, or Djuluhadze,, born in 1952, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, USSR, is a Georgian ballet dancer, a former principal of the Georgian National Opera and Ballet Theater of Tbilisi, Ballet Master, teacher, and choreographer.
