Simply Recipes is a cooking blog founded by Elise Bauer. [1] Bauer began writing the blog in 2003 to record her family recipes. [2] Simply Recipes was acquired by Fexy Media in 2016, [3] and later by Dotdash in 2020 [4]
Bauer writes about recipes for popular dishes such as meatloaf and apple pie, as well as how-to articles on subjects such as how to cook the perfect boiled egg or how to best caramelize an onion. The blog often features guest bloggers. [1]
Each recipe is attached with a photo of the final product, along with several photos that portray each major step in the recipe. The website's posts are organized in categories, such as one that only includes recipes involving beef, appetizers, or low-budget meals. [1]
By January 2007, Simply Recipes was receiving over one million visits per month and had over 500 recipes. The Well Fed Network, a compilation of food blogs, awarded Simply Recipes the award for best blog overall of 2006. [2] In 2010, Forbes magazine listed Bauer among "Eight Of The Very Best Food Bloggers." [5] Bauer's blog has been described as taking a "relaxed approach" to food. The Cooks Source infringement controversy occurred in November 2010, when Cooks Source, a free, advertising-supported publication distributed in the New England region of the United States, became the center of a copyright infringement dispute after the magazine reprinted an online article without permission of the author. The controversy was fueled by social media and crowdsourced investigations finding additional alleged infringement and plagiarism. The incident became an international topic of news and analysis, which expanded to become an internet meme. On the issue of copyright, the incident illustrates that "masses of Internet users are very good at finding examples of copyright infringement, which counterbalances how easy the Internet has made plagiarism in the first place." At the same time, the response by the Cooks Source editor "may well become a digital textbook example of how not to respond to grievances in the internet age." The incident was named Journalistic Error of the Year for 2010 by Craig Silverman on his website Regret the Error. The fallout from the controversy drove Cooks Source out of business within two weeks of it breaking in full.

The company was headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida but moved to Jakarta, Indonesia early in 2012 and recently announced intentions to switch to e-commerce, dropping the social networking aspect entirely. Quantcast estimates Multiply had 2.47 million monthly U.S. unique visitors at their peak on July 30, 2012.
