Skinnerton was named for William M. Skinner, who served as the first postmaster. [2]

A post office operated under the name Skinnerton from 1888 to 1926. [3]

The William B. Bankhead National Forest is one of Alabama's four National Forests, covering 181,230 acres (733 km2). It is home to Alabama's only National Wild and Scenic River, the Sipsey Fork.
