The South African Communist Party (SACP) is a communist party in South Africa. It was founded in 1921 as the Communist Party of South Africa (CPSA),tactically dissolved itself in 1950 in the face of being declared illegal by the governing National Party under the Suppression of Communism Act,1950. The Communist Party was reconstituted underground and re-launched as the SACP in 1953,participating in the struggle to end the apartheid system. It is a member of the ruling Tripartite Alliance alongside the African National Congress and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and through this it influences the South African government. The party's Central Committee is the party's highest decision-making structure.
Trevor Andrew Manuel is a South African politician who served in the government of South Africa as Minister of Finance from 1996 to 2009,during the presidencies of Nelson Mandela,Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe,and subsequently as Minister in the Presidency for the National Planning Commission from 2009 to 2014 under former President Jacob Zuma.
Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is a South African politician who served as the fourth president of South Africa from 2009 to 2018. He is also referred to by his initials JZ and clan name Msholozi,and was a former anti-apartheid activist,member of Umkhonto we Sizwe,and president of the African National Congress (ANC) between 2007 and 2017.

Following Zuma's resignation,President Cyril Ramaphosa returned Nhlanhla Nene as Minister in his cabinet reshuffle on 26 February 2018.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) is the party's chief executive organ. It is elected every five years at the party’s national conference;the executive committee,in turn,elects a National Working Committee for day-to-day decision-making responsibilities. At the NEC's head is the president of the ANC,and it also contains the other so-called "Top Seven" leaders:the deputy president,chairperson,secretary-general,two deputy secretaries-general and treasurer-general.

Many prominent South Africans and politicians have been linked to the family's alleged corrupt activities,including members of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party. The Gupta family has since fled South Africa and their current whereabouts are unknown although since fleeing the country their presence has been reported in Switzerland,the United Arab Emirates (UAE),and Vanuatu.
Jacob Zuma's tenure as South Africa's fourth post-apartheid president began on 9 May 2009 and ended on 14 February 2018. He held office under a mandate from the parliamentary caucus of the African National Congress (ANC),which had governed South Africa since 1994 and which won comfortable majorities in the 2009 and 2014 national elections. His presidency was beset by controversy,and he faced,and defeated,an impeachment attempt and a record eight motions of no confidence in the South African Parliament,four of which went to a vote. His party asked him to resign in February 2018,ahead of the constitutional end of his second term.

The 54th National Conference of the African National Congress (ANC) took place from 16 to 20 December 2017 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec,Gauteng. At the conference,the ANC elected its National Executive Committee (NEC) and other top internal leaders. Often referred to as the Nasrec Conference,it was held during the centenary of the birth of former ANC President Oliver Tambo and was convened under the theme,"Remember Tambo:Towards Unity,Renewal and Radical Socioeconomic Transformation."
Operation Vula was a secret domestic programme of the African National Congress (ANC) during the final years of apartheid in South Africa. Initiated in 1986 at the ANC headquarters in Lusaka and launched in South Africa in 1988,its operatives infiltrated weapons and banned ANC leaders into the country,in order to establish an underground network linking domestic activist structures with the ANC in exile. It was responsible for facilitating the only direct line of communication between ANC headquarters and Nelson Mandela,who at the time was imprisoned and was discussing a negotiated settlement with the government on the ANC's behalf. The operation was disbanded in 1990,after its existence had been publicly revealed and eight of its leaders charged under the Internal Security Act with terrorism and plotting an armed insurrection.
Richard Themba Mthembu is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since 2009. He was formerly KwaZulu-Natal's Member of the Executive Council for Agriculture and Rural Development from June 2016 to May 2019. He has also served as Provincial Secretary of the South African Communist Party in KwaZulu-Natal since 2002.

Mluleki Dlelanga is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2019. He previously served in the legislature from May 2014 to February 2016. He was National Secretary of the Young Communist League of the South African Communist Party (SACP) from 2014 to 2018 and he was elected to a five-year term on the Central Committee of the SACP in 2022.
Joyce Clementine Moloi-Moropa is a South African politician who has been the treasurer of the South African Communist Party (SACP) since 2012. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2008 to 2016 and before that from 2001 to 2004. She chaired Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Communications from 2014 until her resignation at the end of February 2016,and in that capacity she was frequently at odds with the communications ministry and board of the SABC.
