Incumbent Republican governor Brian Kemp won re-election to a second term,defeating Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams in a rematch. Abrams conceded on election night. The primary occurred on May 24,2022. Kemp was sworn in for a second term on January 9,2023.

A runoff election for one of Georgia's seats in the United States Senate was held on December 6,2022. The runoff was scheduled because none of the candidates for Senate received 50% of the statewide vote in the general election. In addition to the Senate seat,all of Georgia's seats in the United States House of Representatives were up for election. Also up for election were all of Georgia's executive officers and legislative seats,as well as one seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission. The Republican Party decisively won every single statewide office in Georgia except for the Federal Senate race which narrowly went Democratic in 2022.

Nabilah Islam Parkes is an American activist and politician from the state of Georgia who is the Georgia State Senator for the 7th district as a result of the 2022 Georgia State Senate election. She became the first Muslim woman in the Georgia State Senate and the second overall in the Georgia State Legislature,along with Sheikh Rahman and Farooq Mughal. She previously ran to represent Georgia's 7th congressional district in 2020. Due to her progressive stances,she has been described as "Georgia's AOC" and "Atlanta's AOC."
The 157th Georgia General Assembly consisted of two sessions of the Georgia General Assembly in Atlanta,Georgia,United States,the first in 2023 and the second in 2024. It convened its first session on January 9,2023 at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta,which adjourned sine die on March 29;as stipulated in the Constitution of Georgia,the General Assembly can only hold a session "for a period of no longer than 40 days in the aggregate each year".
