Soren Baker is an American journalist who has spent his career covering hip-hop. Best known for his six years as one of the main editors of The Source ,^[1] Baker has had more than 3,500 articles published in such publications as The New York Times , Los Angeles Times ,^[2] Chicago Tribune ,^[3] XXL , The Source, HipHopDX and RedBullUSA.com.

Baker has penned liner notes for albums by 2Pac, Ice Cube, N.W.A, Gang Starr and others.^[4]^[5] He has also worked on television programs for VH1 and Fuse. Baker has also written extensively about sports, specifically the NFL and published books about the Baltimore Ravens. Baker has written, produced and directed multiple DVDs including Tech N9ne: The Psychumentary .^[6] From 2014 to 2016 he also co-hosted Open Bar Radio with Xzibit on KDAY in Los Angeles.^[7]

Baker has been interviewed multiple times, including by Rolling Stone ,^[8] ESPN,^[9] BET,^[10] and TV One,^[11] among others. From 2013 to 2016 he served as the news editor of HipHopDX.^[12] In March 2016 he founded Unique Access Entertainment^[13] which delivers original, exclusive video content with A-List entertainers, including MC Ren, Nice & Smooth, Ice-T, G Perico, T. Rodgers, MC Eiht, Skeme, Dana Dane, CJ Mac, Big Tray Deee, RBX, Mitchy Slick, and Slink Johnson. The network has logged more than 10 million views on YouTube and aired more than 1,400 videos.^[14]

Soren Baker's book The History Of Gangster Rap: From Schoolly D to Kendrick Lamar, the Rise of a Great American Art form ^[15] was published October 2, 2018, by Abrams Books.

With Gucci Mane, Soren Baker co-authored The Gucci Mane Guide To Greatness ,^[16] which was published October 13, 2020 by Simon & Schuster. On November 9, 2021, the paperback edition of the book was published.

Baker's next book, Chronicles of the Juice Man^[17] with Juicy J, is slated for a September 5, 2023 release via Hanover Square Press.

Johnny Reed McKinzie Jr., better known by his stage name Jay Rock, is an American rapper. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he signed with local independent label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2005. He secured a major label joint venture deal with Warner Bros. Records and Asylum Records to release his 2008 debut single, "All My Life ". Failing to chart, the mergers fell through and Rock departed from both of the latter labels shortly after. He then signed with Missouri rapper Tech N9ne's label Strange Music in a joint venture deal with TDE in 2011.

The Return of East Atlanta Santa is the tenth studio album by American rapper Gucci Mane. It was released on December 16, 2016, by GUWOP Enterprises, RBC Records and Atlantic Records. The record serves as Gucci Mane's third commercial release of the year, following his release from prison, after Everybody Looking (2016) and Woptober (2016). The album features guest appearances from rappers Drake and Travis Scott, alongside singer Bryson Tiller, while the production was handled by Metro Boomin, Southside, Bangladesh, Zaytoven, Mike Will Made It and Murda Beatz, among others.

The 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards are a recognition ceremony held October 6 at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach, Florida, and aired October 10 on the BET cable channel. The nominations were announced on September 15, 2017.
