Storhamar Hockey, often referred to by its initials SIL, is a Norwegian ice hockey team based in Hamar, Norway. The club currently plays in the EliteHockey Ligaen, the highest level of Norwegian hockey. The club has won eight regular season titles and seven national championships since its founding on 18 March 1957. Storhamar play their home games in the CC Amfi. The club also includes the largest junior department in Norwegian ice hockey. The team colours are yellow and blue.

History

The 1952 Winter Olympics inspired local Hamar youth to form a hockey club in the area. The first ice rink was constructed in 1955, and Storhamar was formally accepted into the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association two years later.

To date, the club has won the Norwegian Championships (playoffs) seven times, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2018 and 2024

The most notable player in franchise history is Erik Kristiansen who played 20 seasons scoring 509 goals and 406 assists in 649 games. The best known player internationally from Storhamar is Patrick Thoresen.

During the 2016–17 playoffs, Storhamar Hockey was involved in the longest professional hockey match ever recorded, taking 217 minutes and 14 seconds to defeat Sparta Warriors 2-1. The game ended in the 11th period when Joakim Jensen scored for Storhamar.

Vålerenga Ishockey is a Norwegian professional ice hockey team based in Oslo, Norway. Vålerenga has been the dominant force in Norwegian hockey since the 1960s, claiming 26 national championships and 29 regular season titles. Their old home arena, located in central-eastern Oslo, was Jordal Amfi, built for the 1952 Winter Olympics. In 2020, Vålerenga moved in to their new arena at Jordal.

Patrick Thoresen is a Norwegian professional ice hockey left winger who is currently playing for the Storhamar in the Fjordkraftligaen. His father Petter was one of Norway's players who played at five Olympic Winter Games (1980–1994). Thoresen would follow in his father's footsteps and play in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014.

CC Amfi, also known as Nordlyshallen, is an indoor sports arena in Hamar, Norway. It is mostly used for ice hockey and is the home arena of Storhamar Hockey. It has also been used for short track speed skating, figure skating, handball, events and concerts. The venue has a capacity for 7,000 spectators and was built for the 1994 Winter Olympics, where it was used for short track speed skating and figure skating. Other major events held at the arena include the 1999 IIHF World Championship in ice hockey, the 1999 World Women's Handball Championship, the 2012 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships and the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics.

Norway competed at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.

EliteHockey Ligaen (EHL) is the premier Norwegian ice hockey league, organised by the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association. It comprises 10 clubs and works on the premise of promotion and relegation, in which the two teams who placed last must play the top two teams from First Division for the rights to play in the next Eliteserie season.

The 2007–08 GET-ligaen season began on 13 September 2007 and was scheduled to end 21 February 2008. The Storhamar Dragons won the championships for the sixth time. The win also marked the fourth championship in as many leap years for the Dragons.

Norway competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This was the first and only time at the Winter Olympics that Norway failed to win a gold medal.

Petter Thoresen is a Norwegian ice hockey coach and former player, currently serving as head coach of Storhamar Hockey, where he has been in charge since June 2022. He played for Forward, Hasle/Løren, Manglerud Star, Storhamar Dragons and Vålerenga. He is the father of players Steffen Thoresen and Patrick Thoresen.

Pål "Magic" Johnsen is a retired Norwegian hockey player, who most of his career played for the Storhamar Dragons in the GET-ligaen. Johnsen made his debut for the senior team as a 16-year-old in December, 1992 against Hasle/Løren. Since then was loyal to Storhamar except for two seasons in Sweden with Leksands IF and Skellefteå AIK 2000–02. Johnsen got 48 official games for the national team, and received the Golden Puck award as the Norwegian player of the year in 2000.

The 2010–11 GET-ligaen is the 72nd season of Norway's premier ice hockey league, Eliteserien. The regular season began on 18 September 2010 and is scheduled to end on 27 February 2011.

The 2014–15 GET-ligaen is the 76th and current season of Norway's premier ice hockey league, Eliteserien.

The 2016–17 GET-ligaen was the 78th season of Norway's premier ice hockey league, GET-ligaen.
