The first annual Sikh Awards ceremony was held on October 10, 2010 as a tribute to the skills, achievements, and successes of the Sikh community. [1] The event was organized by The Sikh Directory.

The Sikh Directory

The Sikh Directory was published in 2006 and has since been updated and published annually. It is currently the world’s largest and most comprehensive Sikh business directory. It is an established and trusted brand which educates the next generation, stimulates community networking and connects buyers and sellers.

The Sikh Directory’s main objectives are to serve, connect and unite the Sikh community around the world, to help promote and magnify the competitiveness and breadth of Sikh businesses internationally.

Award Categories

Awards are given to individuals or organizations who have given an excellent service in business and to the Sikh community, especially Sikhs who have delivered their service in an exceptional and innovative way and can show examples of selfless voluntary service:

For the organizations or individual that can best demonstrate how it has made exceptional financial returns, shown strong growth, innovative strategies and clear market leadership in its sector. This category also incorporates Business Man, Business Women and Entrepreneur awards.

For an individual, organization, or society which can best demonstrate that it has the community at heart and has had a positive impact whilst improving the health and wellbeing of society.

For any Sikh educational establishment, teacher or individual that is taking a strategic approach to recognizing, educating and developing the talent and skills within the community.

This category recognizes directors, presenters, comedians, instrumentalists and musical artists etc. respected role models who promote the Sikh identity within the entertainment industry.

For an individual or organization that has made a substantial positive impact within the media industry, including newspapers, websites, radio and television stations and all other media platforms.

Nominees in this category are employees whose contributions have made an exceptional difference on a local or global scale, in any field such as financial, medical, technology, government or legal.

This category recognizes an outstanding individual who has shown exceptional vision and contribution to society through means of Seva (Selfless Voluntary Service).

For an individual that has made a significant contribution to the sports industry on a regional, national or global scale whilst promoting there Sikh Identi

For a Sikh who has made a significant contribution to Sikhism on a global scale, an individual who has demonstrated a positive impact on society whilst progressing Sikhism to higher levels.

Chosen by the community through the online voting process, this category recognizes an individual who has had a positive impact on people's lives and has great admiration from others.

This highly respected honor is bestowed to a Sikh or non-Sikh that through their passion, dedication and commitment have made a significant contribution for the greater good of society.

Sikh architecture is a style of architecture that was developed under the Sikh Confederacy and Sikh Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries in the Punjab region. Due to its progressive style, it is constantly evolving into many newly developing branches with new contemporary styles. Although Sikh architecture was initially developed within Sikhism its style has been used in many non-religious buildings due to its beauty. 300 years ago, Sikh architecture was distinguished for its many curves and straight lines; Keshgarh Sahib and the Harmandir Sahib are prime examples.

Mohan Singh Mehta (1895-1986) was founder of Vidya Bhavan group of institutions and Seva Mandir in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Gurdwara Palatine Sikh Religious Society (SRS), based in Palatine, Illinois, is a United States-based Not-for-Profit Religious Organization and a place of worship, incorporated in 1972. It manages the largest Gurdwaara Sahib of Midwest America at 1280 Winnetka Street, Palatine on a Campus spread over fourteen acres of land at a prime location in Chicago's metropolitan area. In a seven-day-a-week religious program, devotees visit the Gurdwaara Sahib to make prayers, listen to the Sikh hymns (Kirtan), and discourses on Spirituality.

Barundi is a village located in the Ludhiana district of the state of Punjab in India, about 25 km (16 mi) away from Ludhiana. With a population of more than 4166, Barundi is one of the largest villages in Ludhiana.Barundi is also known for its state of the art drainage system and sewage treatment plant. Apart from these the village has its great religious significance too.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dalip Kaur Tiwana</span> Indian writer (1935–2020)

Dalip Kaur Tiwana was one of the foremost novelists and short-story writers of contemporary Punjabi literature. She won awards, both regional and national, and was a widely translated author. She retired as Professor of Punjabi, and Dean, from Punjabi University, Patiala. She is widely credited as a tour-de-force in the creation of the contemporary literature in the Punjabi language.

The CNN–News18 Indian of the Year is an award presented annually to various Indians for their work in their respective fields by the Indian media house CNN–News18. The awards are presented in various categories of Politics, Sports, Business, Entertainment, Public Service and Global Indian. The idea of the award was originated by journalists: Rajdeep Sardesai and Sagarika Ghose.

The GUBA Awards, or Grow, Unite, Build, Africa (GUBA) Awards, formerly known as the Ghana UK-Based Achievement Awards, are organized by GUBA Enterprise, a social enterprise organization dedicated to the support and advancement of Africans in the diaspora and Africans on the continent through various socio-economic programmes and initiatives. The awards event celebrate and reward the excellence and innovation of African individuals and organizations, working towards the advancement, empowerment, and progression of the African community in the Diaspora.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Harkishan Singh</span> Indian pharmaceutical chemist

Harkishan Singh was Professor Emeritus at the Panjab University. He was a well recognized pharmaceutical academic, medicinal chemistry researcher and science historian. He had more than half a century experience in his respective fields to his credit. He worked at the Banaras Hindu University, University of Saugar, and the Panjab University in India, and abroad at the University of Maryland, University of Mississippi and the University of London.

Duhre is a village in Jalandhar district of Punjab State, India. It is located 24 kilometres (15 mi) from district headquarter Jalandhar and 166 kilometres (103 mi) from state capital Chandigarh. The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is an elected representative of village as per Panchayati raj (India).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Iqbal Singh (spiritual leader)</span> Indian Sikh educator (1926–2022)

Iqbal Singh Kingra was an Indian socio-spiritual leader of the Sikh community. He was the Founder President of The Kalgidhar Trust, The Kalgidhar Society and Baru Sahib. He was considered to be one of the most influential Sikhs in the world. He was awarded the Sikh Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. In 2018 he was bestowed with Shiromani Panth Rattan by Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib. In 2022, he was conferred with the Padma Shri by the Government Of India for his contributions in the field of social work.

Manika Kaur is a devotional singer, songwriter, and philanthropist from Melbourne, Australia.

Manmeet Kaur is a Pakistani journalist and social worker. She is the first Sikh journalist from Pakistan and the first to be nominated for the 100 most influential Sikh personalities under 30.
