Toby Gold (born 27 September 1994) is an English wheelchair racer. [1] He is classified as a T33 athlete and competes primarily in sprint events, winning the 100m gold in the 2016 European Championships and silver at the 2016 Paralympic Games.
Gold was born in England in 1994. [2] He was educated at Wimbledon College and St Mary's University, Twickenham, both Roman Catholic schools. He studied Sports Science at St Mary's. [1]
Gold first became involved in athletics after being spotted playing wheelchair basketball in 2011. He was invited to try out at Kingsmeadow Athletics Stadium in Kingston, and subsequently joined the wheelchair training squad. [3] By 2012 he was classified as a T33 disability athlete and began competing at national meets, mainly in sprint events. [4]
During 2013 and 2014 Gold kept competing at national competitions winning gold medals at IWAS World Junior Games. [4] In May 2014 he travelled to Notwill in Switzerland to compete at his first overseas event, where he collected gold in both the 100m and 200m events. [4] Gold first represented Great Britain in a major international meet at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha.
Due to the absence of any 200m and 400m events, Gold only contested the 100m race, where he finished third to collect the bronze medal. [1] The following year, in the buildup to the 2016 Summer Paralympics, Gold appeared at the European Championships in Grosseto. In a limited field, Gold finished first, beating fellow British athlete Dan Bramall into second place. Gold's finishing time of 17.64 was more than a second a half faster than his result the year previous in Doha. Gold won a Silver Medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games. [5]
Richard Andrew Colman is an Australian Paralympic athlete, competing mainly in category T53 sprint events. He was born with spina bifida. He represented Australia at the four Paralympics - 2004 to 2016.
Henry Manni is a Finnish athlete and paracanoeist who has competed and medaled in both fields at World Championship level. In Paracanoeing he won a bronze medal in the K-1 200 m TA event at the 2010 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Poznań. Manni later switched to athletics as a wheelchair sprinter in the T34 classification. In 2013 he won a bronze in the World Championships in the 200m event, following this with four golds in the 2014 European Championships and three further World championship medals in 2015.
Madison de Rozario is an Australian Paralympic athlete. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, she won two silver medals. She has won three gold medals at the World Para Athletics Championships.
Angela Ballard is an Australian Paralympic athlete who competes in T53 wheelchair sprint events. She became a paraplegic at age 7 due to a car accident.
Marcel Eric Hug is a Paralympian athlete from Switzerland competing in category T54 wheelchair racing events. Hug, nicknamed 'The Silver Bullet', has competed in four Summer Paralympic Games for Switzerland, winning two bronze medals in his first Games in Athens in 2004. In 2010 he set four world records in four days, and at the 2011 World Championships he won a gold in the 10,000 metres and four silver medals, losing the gold in three events to long term rival David Weir. This rivalry continued into the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where Hug won two silvers, in the 800m and the marathon. In the 2013 World Championships Hug dominated the field, winning five golds and a silver. During the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, Hug was one of the most consistent competitors in the T54 class, winning two golds, in the 800 m and marathon, and two silvers medals, in the 1500m and 500m.
Rheed McCracken is an Australian Paralympic athletics competitor. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics, he won a silver and bronze medal in T34 athletics events. His success led him to be named the 2012 Junior Athlete of the Year as part of the Australian Paralympian of the Year Awards. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics where he repeated his medal success at the London Paralympics.
Brent Lakatos is a Canadian wheelchair racer in the T53 classification. Lakatos has represented Canada at three Summer Paralympics, and at the 2012 Games he won three silver medals in the sprint and mid-distance events. In 2013 Lakatos reached the pinnacle of his sport when he collected four gold medals at the IPC Athletics World Championships and became world champion at his classification in the 100m, 200m and 400m events.
Georgina Hermitage, is a British parasport athlete competing in T37 sprint events. In 2015, she qualified for the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, selected for the T37 100m and 200m. She took the gold in the 400m sprint, setting a new world record.
Daniel Bramall is a British athlete who competes in T33 racing events. In 2015 Bramall finished in silver medal position in the T33 100m sprint event at the IPC World Championships in Doha.
Michał Derus is a Polish track and field athlete, competing in the T47 disability classification for athletes with an impairment to a lower arm.
Moatez 'Mo' Jomni is a British Paralympic athlete who competes mainly in category T53 sprint events and middle distance events.
Peter Genyn is a Paralympian sportsman from Belgium. Initially Genyn competed as a wheelchair rugby player before switching to track and field athletics in 2014 where he competes in category T51 sprint events. In 2016 he became the world record holder in the T51 men's 400 metres sprint.
Kare Adenegan is a British wheelchair athlete specialising in sprint distances in the T34 classification. She was classified as a disability athlete in 2013.
Ahmad Almutairi is a Kuwaiti para-sport athlete who competes as a T33 classification track and field athlete and as a wheelchair basketball player, both at national level. Despite the fact that Almutairi held the Paralympic world record for his classification in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m events, major world titles alluded him due to the fact that his classification was under-represented and he was forced to compete against less severely disabled athletes in the T44 class. He eventually won a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
Isaac Towers is a Paralympian athlete from England competing in category T34 sprint and middle-distance events. Towers won gold to become European champion in the 800m (T34) event in 2016 and qualified for the Summer Paralympics in Rio.
Ndodomzi Jonathan Ntutu is a visually impaired South African sprinter. Ndodomzi Jonathan Ntutu is currently South Africa's fastest ever para-athlete. His 10.80 was posted on April 12th 2018 during the heats of the Commonwealth Games. Competing in the T12 classification, Ntutu has competed at three Summer Paralympic Games, winning bronze in the 2012 Games in London. He is also a multiple World Championships winner, taking five medals over four tournaments.
Daniel Wagner Jørgensen, who also competes as Daniel Wagner or Daniel Jørgensen, is a leg amputee Danish Paralympic sportsman who has competed in both track and field athletics and snowboarding. As an athlete he specialises in the long jump, but also competes in sprint events.
Liu Yang is a Paralympian athlete from China competing mainly in T54 classification sprint events. Before achieving success as an athlete, Liu ventured into para-cycling, but switched shortly after his international cycling debut.
Johannes Nambala is a Paralympian athlete from Namibia competing mainly in category T13 sprint events. In 2013 he became the first Namibian to win a gold medal at an IPC Athletics World Championships, when he won the 400m sprint in Lyon. As well as World Championship success Nambala has also won two silver Paralympic medals, both silver, and both won at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Felix Streng is a German Paralympic track and field athlete. A single leg amputee, Streng competes in both sprint and long jump events, competing in the T44 classification. He has won medals at both European and World Championship level and was part of the German Athletics at the 2016 Summer Paralympics – Men's 4 × 100 metres relay team that won gold at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio.
