Tudor Olimpius Bompa is a sports scientist. He is a Professor Emeritus at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [1] He is married to Tamara Bompa, who is an associate lecturer at York University.
Tudor Olimpius Bompa was born on December 23, 1932, in the town of Năsăud, in Bistrița-Năsăud County, Romania. He attended his first school classes in his hometown, and in 1949 he moved to the Sports School in Cluj-Napoca. During his junior years, he was part of the national athletics team, and won several silver and bronze medals at the National Championships, in the pentathlon, javelin and discus competitions. [2]
In his teens, Bompa played competitive soccer and competed in sprint and pentathlon. After an ankle injury, he swapped to rowing, which he found difficult as it is an endurance sport rather than a strength sport that he had been used to through his track and field career. [3] At the 1958 European Rowing Championships, he won a silver medal in the coxed four event. [4]
He attended the courses of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, a prestigious sports academy in the Romanian capital city, Bucharest, which he graduated at the age of 24, in 1956. Between 1956 and 1970, he served as Director of the Central Army House Sports Club, as an assistant professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Timișoara and the University of Bucharest, and as Athletic Director at Politehnica Timișoara Sports Club. Starting in 1960, he laid the foundations of new training methods for performance athletes, which were first published in the journal "Studies and Research" Politehnica University of Timișoara. [2]
In 1970 Bompa emigrated to Canada, where he attended Masters studies at York University, in Toronto, between 1972 and 1974. In 1975 enrolled in the doctoral studies program at State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating with a Ph.D. degree in 1979 with thesis "Mechanical analysis of the action of the arms". He was also conferred a Ph.D. degree by the Free University of Brussels, in Belgium. [1]
Bompa has received 23 honors in 21 countries, including Life-Long Achievements Awards, NSCA, in Las Vegas, 2014. [5] He has also received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, Politehnica University of Timișoara, 2017. [1] His most prominent book, Periodization:Theory and Methodology of Training has been voted Year Book, 2018, a best seller, and Best Sports Science Book of 2018.
Bompa has published 19 books; some of them have been translated into 22 languages, and have sold over one million copies. [2]

Tudor Gheorghe is a Romanian musician, actor, and poet known primarily for his politically charged musical career and his collaborations with well-known figures of late 20th-century Romanian poetry. His recording work is sometimes associated with anti communist activism and has received much critical acclaim over the years. The son of an Iron Guard member, he was banned from performing and recording in 1987 after a concert at Sala Palatului in Bucharest, following a number of run-ins with Romania's communist authorities throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Endurance training is the act of exercising to increase endurance. The term endurance training generally refers to training the aerobic system as opposed to the anaerobic system. The need for endurance in sports is often predicated as the need of cardiovascular and simple muscular endurance, but the issue of endurance is far more complex. Endurance can be divided into two categories including: general endurance and specific endurance. It can be shown that endurance in sport is closely tied to the execution of skill and technique. A well conditioned athlete can be defined as, the athlete who executes his or her technique consistently and effectively with the least effort. Key for measuring endurance are heart rate, power in cycling and pace in running.

In sports science theory, supercompensation refers to the post-training period during which the trained parameter has a higher performance capacity than it did prior to the training period.
Ballistic training uses exercises which accelerate a force through the entire range of motion. It is a form of power training which can involve throwing weights, jumping with weights, or swinging weights in order to increase explosive power. The intention in ballistic exercises is to maximise the acceleration phase of an object's movement and minimise the deceleration phase. For instance, throwing a medicine ball maximises the acceleration of the ball. This can be contrasted with a standard weight training exercise where there would be a pronounced deceleration phase at the end of the repetition i.e. at the end of a bench press exercise the barbell is decelerated and brought to a halt. Similarly, an athlete jumping whilst holding a trap bar maximises the acceleration of the weight through the process of holding it whilst they jump- where as they would decelerate it at the end of a standard trap bar deadlift.

Știința Stadium is a football stadium in Timișoara. Opened in 1928, the stadium is located on the campus of the Polytechnic University of Timișoara. The stadium has an athletics track, an electronic scoreboard, floodlights, as well as facilities for athletes. Politehnica Timișoara, the city's flagship team, played on this stadium until the construction of Dan Păltinișanu Stadium. It is now used by Liga II team SSU Politehnica Timișoara.
