The University of Georgia Campus Transit system operates on the campus and vicinity of the university. Campus Transit has an average daily ridership of 39,765. The system also runs two shuttles on football home game days. [2]

Contents

All fixed routes are fare-free and open to anyone including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The service is funded primarily by a transportation fee paid by students each semester.

Unlike the transit systems found in many college towns, Campus Transit is separate from the Athens Transit system serving Athens-Clarke County.

Operates on days when the university is open but classes are not in session. Most weekday routes are run but with only one or two vehicles serving each one.

Fleet

Electric Buses

As of April 2019, UGA has entered into a contract to add up to 19 new electric buses. [4] The 19 buses were put into service on campus in February 2020. In December 2019, as the University of Georgia was awarded $7.46 million under the Federal Transit Administration's Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, it was announced that 13 additional electric buses would be added to the fleet, which will bring the total number of electric buses on campus to 33. [5] The electric buses will account for a third of the total fleet in 2021, when UGA begins to phase out and decommission older diesel buses. [6]

Hillsborough Area Regional Transit provides public transportation for Hillsborough County, Florida. The agency provides fixed-route local and express bus service, door-to-door paratransit service (HARTplus), flex-route neighborhood connector service (HARTflex), a lightened version of bus rapid transit (MetroRapid), and manages the TECO Line Streetcar system.

The Champaign–Urbana Mass Transit District is a mass transit system that operates in the Champaign–Urbana metropolitan area in eastern Illinois. MTD is headquartered in Urbana and operates its primary hub at the intermodal Illinois Terminal in downtown Champaign. In 2021, the system had a ridership of 5,551,500, or about 24,400 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2022.

The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) is the major public transportation provider for the Louisville, Kentucky, United States metro area, which includes parts of Southern Indiana. This includes the suburbs of Clark County, and Floyd County in Southern Indiana. TARC is publicly funded and absorbed various earlier private mass transit companies in Louisville, the largest of which was the Louisville Transit Company. In 2021, the system had a ridership of 4,975,800, or about 17,400 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2022.

The Delaware Transit Corporation, operating as DART First State, is the only public transportation system that operates throughout the U.S. state of Delaware. DART First State provides local and inter-county bus service throughout the state and also subsidizes commuter rail service along SEPTA Regional Rail's Wilmington/Newark Line serving the northern part of the state. The agency also operates statewide paratransit service for people with disabilities. DART First State is a subsidiary of the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT).

Palm Tran is the public transit bus system run by the Palm Beach County Government, serving Palm Beach County, Florida. Palm Tran also serves a portion of Broward County, Florida where it overlaps with Broward County Transit. The Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) is the public transit authority of Whatcom County in northwestern Washington, based in the city of Bellingham. It provides bus service on 31 fixed routes, including branded "GO Lines" with 15-minute frequencies on weekdays, to cities in its service area. In addition to bus service, the WTA offers paratransit service and a vanpool programs.

Athens Transit is a public bus system in Athens, Georgia, United States. The system was started in 1976, and today 20 routes operate throughout the city. The whole system is fare free. Most bus routes have the buses stop at a given location once per hour during operating hours.

Lextran is a public transportation bus system serving Lexington, Kentucky. Lextran operates 25 bus routes throughout the city of Lexington. Buses converge at the Downtown Transit Center located at 220 East Vine Street. In 2021, the system had a ridership of 2,671,900, or about 11,500 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">University of Minnesota Campus Shuttle</span>

The University of Minnesota's Campus Shuttle is a zero-fare bus service operating on the University's Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses. In 2009, the system carried more than 3.9 million riders, making it the second-busiest transit system in Minnesota after the Twin Cities's primary provider Metro Transit. It outpaces all of the suburban transit providers in the Twin Cities, as well as providers in other metropolitan areas in the state. Duluth Transit Authority serving Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin is the state's third-busiest provider, while the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority ranks fourth. The shuttles are operated under contract by First Transit through the University's Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) department.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rutgers Campus Buses</span>

Rutgers Campus Buses are a zero-fare bus service used by students at Rutgers University campuses. It is the second-largest bus service in New Jersey after NJ Transit, and one of the largest university bus systems in the United States. Service is provided by First Transit year-round, including weekends and holidays. Late night shuttle service for students is provided by Rutgers Department of Transportation Services when the New Brunswick campus transit system is not in service. Football and other event shuttles are operated by Academy Bus Lines.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">University of Massachusetts Transportation Services</span>

University of Massachusetts Transportation Services, abbreviated to UMass Transit Services or UMass Transit, is a department within the University of Massachusetts Amherst that provides mass transit services to the UMass Amherst campus and other members of the Five Colleges Consortium in eastern Hampshire County, as well as outlying towns. Similar to other large campus transportation systems, such as UGA Campus Transit in Georgia and Unitrans in California, UMass Transit buses are driven by students attending UMass Amherst. In 2021, the system had a ridership of 1,400,400, or about 5,500 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">CMAX</span> Bus rapid transit line in Columbus, Ohio

CMAX is a bus rapid transit (BRT) service in Central Ohio, operated by the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA). The line begins in Downtown Columbus, traveling northeast to Westerville. CMAX is Central Ohio's first bus rapid transit line; it began operation in 2018.
