In 2020, the International Film Festival Rotterdam presented the feature film La Fortaleza by Jorge Thielen Armand in the Tiger Competition; La Fortaleza is the first Venezuelan title compete in this A-list festival. [1]

In 2023, the Venezuelan Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences chose Simón , directed by Diego Vicentini, to represent Venezuela in the 38th Goya Awards. [2] On 30 November, Simón was officially nominated to the 38th Goya Awards in the Best Ibero-American Film category. [3] [4] [5]

Fortitude is a 2020 internationally co-produced drama film directed by Jorge Thielen Armand. It premiered in the Tiger Competition of the 49th International Film Festival Rotterdam. A co-production between Venezuela, Colombia, France and The Netherlands, the film premiered in Venezuelan cinemas on 23 December 2021.

Jorge Thielen Armand is a film director, screenwriter and producer. He studied communications at Concordia University in Montreal, and later, with Rodrigo Michelangeli, founded the Canadian-Venezuelan film production company La Faena Films. He has directed two feature films, La Soledad and La Fortaleza, and the short film Flor de la Mar. All three films have received positive reviews from critics.

La Faena Films is a film production company founded in 2015, by the Venezuelan filmmakers Jorge Thielen Armand and Rodrigo Michelangeli. It operates both in Toronto and Caracas.

<i>Simón</i> (2023 film) 2023 film by Diego Vicentini

Simón is a 2023 drama film written, directed, co-produced and edited by Venezuelan filmmaker Diego Vicentini. It is about a young Venezuelan protester, Simón, who after being arrested and tortured during protests in Venezuela flees the country and seeks asylum in Miami, where he must decide whether to stay in the city or return to Venezuela. As filming took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, precautions were introduced, including frequent testing of the cast and crew, the strict use of masks and set sterilization between scenes, which added unforeseen costs to the production. Premiered at the Florida Film Festival, the feature film has received multiple awards, including Best Feature Film at the Venezuelan Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the Heartland International Film Festival. Simón was nominated to the 38th Goya Awards in the Best Ibero-American Film category.

The Other Son is a 2023 drama film written and directed by Juan Sebastián Quebrada in his directorial debut. Starring Miguel Gonzalez and Simón Trujillo. It is about a teenager who must overcome the unexpected death of his brother at a party while his family environment collapses. It is a co-production between Colombia, Argentina and France.
