The R.B. Pamplin College of Business (commonly known as Pamplin College of Business or Pamplin), is Virginia Tech's business school. Founded in 1965, it has more than 41,000 alumni. The current Dean is Saonee Sarker. In 1986 the college was renamed following a donation from alumnus Robert B. Pamplin and his son Robert B. Pamplin Jr. [2]

The college offers three different kinds of Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees, three different Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA) degrees, and a Master of Accounting and Information Systems (MACIS) degree. In addition, Pamplin offers two Ph.D. degrees, non-degree executive development programs, and majors and minors for undergraduate students. Pamplin jointly offers a Master of Information Technology (MIT) degree with the Virginia Tech College of Engineering. [3] The most recent national U.S. News & World Report rank shows Pamplin's undergraduate program is 23rd among public institutions and the Evening MBA Program is ranked 16th overall. [4] As of 2015 Pamplin accounts for approximately 20 percent of all business degrees awarded from Virginia's 14 senior public institutions. [5]

History

Academics

Pamplin offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus. In addition the college offers MBA programs in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Roanoke. The undergraduate program offers majors in accounting, business information technology, economics, finance, hospitality, information systems, management, marketing, real estate, and tourism management. [8] Minors are offered in: Applied Business Computing, Business Diversity, Entrepreneurship, International Business, Leadership, Multicultural Diversity Management, and Professional Sales. [9] Pamplin offers study-abroad opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students. Pamplin students can attend Virginia Tech's Center for European Studies and Architecture in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland, and other European universities offer opportunities as well. [10]

Clubs and organizations

Some of the most popular clubs are the Accounting Society, BASIS (Bond And Securities Investing by Students), PRISM, Beta Alpha Psi, Business Technology Club, Business Horizons, Delta Sigma Pi, Hospitality Management Association, Virginia Tech Management Society, National Association of Black Accountants, Pi Sigma Epsilon, Society for Human Resource Management, Student-Managed Endowment for Educational Development, and the American Marketing Association: [29]

Alumni relations

The Pamplin College of Business Alumni Association is an alumni organization for former students of the college. [30] In total 24,185 alumni live in Virginia, and 41,738 reside Domestically and Internationally. [31]

The Pamplin Advisory Council was founded in 1969 and was chartered to offer ideas and guidance to the dean of the college. In addition, the council assists with connecting the college with the business community. [32] Currently there are over 70 member on the council. [33]

The college publishes a business magazine, Virginia Tech Business Magazine. [34]

The C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry College of Business is a constituent college of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, United States. The business college offers undergraduate programs, MBA programs, specialized master's programs and doctoral programs. It was founded as the first business school in the American South in 1912. The Terry College has eight programs that have top ten rankings and the Bachelor of Business Administration degree is recognized as a top 21 undergraduate program with a large residential enrollment, and the MBA Program is considered a top 31 graduate business program and has a selectivity rate of approximately 35%.

The Penn State Smeal College of Business at the Pennsylvania State University offers undergraduate, graduate, and executive education programs to more than 6,000 students. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Smeal, is home to more than 150 faculty members who teach and conduct academic research on a range of business topics. The college also features a network of industry-supported research centers.

The Rawls College of Business is the business school of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Rawls Business offers curriculum for both undergraduate and graduate students and received its initial business accreditation in 1958 from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Established in 1942, Texas Tech's business school was originally known as the Division of Commerce. In 1956, the school was renamed the College of Business Administration. Following a $25 million gift from alumnus Jerry S. Rawls in 2000, the school was renamed as Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration.

The School of Hospitality Business is an industry-specific school within the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. Founded in 1927 as the nation's first business-based hotel training course, The School of Hospitality Business has 350 undergraduate students and 17 faculty members. The School of Hospitality Business is ranked #1 US Public Hospitality Business Program ; #2 US Public Program ; #3 Hospitality Management Degree Program ; and #4 Hospitality Management Program in the World. The Leonard N. Stern School of Business is the business school of New York University, a private research university based in New York City. Founded as the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance in 1900, the school received its current name in 1988.

The Raymond A. Mason School of Business is the business school of William & Mary, a public research university in Williamsburg, Virginia. The school is named after alumnus and founder of Legg Mason, Raymond A. "Chip" Mason.

The College of Business is the business school of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It is a fully accredited business school that offers undergraduate degrees in accounting, computer information systems, business analytics, economics, finance and business law, international business, management, marketing, and quantitative finance. Additionally, the College of Business offers two master of business administration programs – an Innovation MBA program and an Information Security MBA program. The college also offers a master of science in accounting. It has received recognitions and awards from multiple organizations, including being listed in BusinessWeek's Top 5% Undergraduate Programs and the 40th best business school in the United States. Its facilities are located in Zane Showker Hall on the southwestern part of JMU's campus.

Saunders College of Business is one of eleven colleges at Rochester Institute of Technology and is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). As of fall semester 2018, Saunders College of Business encompasses nearly 11% of RIT's enrollment, home to more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in programs across RIT Global Campuses in Rochester, New York, Croatia, Dubai, Kosovo, and China.

The George Washington University School of Business is the professional business school of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The GW School of Business is ranked as one of the top business schools in the United States, with globally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs. GW's campus is also adjacent to some of the world's leading financial institutions, including the Federal Reserve, World Bank, and International Monetary Fund.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is one of eight colleges at Virginia Tech with a three-part mission of learning, discovery, and engagement and it is one of the best agriculture programs in the nation. It has more than 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students in a dozen academic departments. In 2013, the National Science Foundation ranked Virginia Tech No. 6 in the country for agricultural research expenditures, much of which originated from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

The Tepper School of Business is the business school of Carnegie Mellon University. It is located in the university's 140-acre (0.57 km2) campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The College of Architecture, Arts, and Design formerly the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech consists of four schools, including the School of Architecture, which consistently ranks among the best in the country. Headquartered in Blacksburg, Virginia, the college also has sites in Alexandria, Virginia, and Riva San Vitale, Switzerland. Spread out among these three locations, the college consists of nearly 2,200 students, making it one of the largest schools of architecture in the nation.

The Virginia Tech College of Engineering is the academic unit that manages engineering research and education at Virginia Tech. The College can trace its origins to 1872, and was formally established in 1903. Today, The College of Engineering is the largest academic unit of Virginia Tech and has 14 departments of study. Its undergraduate program was ranked 4th and its graduate program was ranked 30th among doctoral-granting universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2018. In 2014–15, the College of Engineering consisted of 10,059 students. The current dean is Dr. Julia Ross.

The John Chambers College of Business and Economics is the business school of West Virginia University, a state university located in Morgantown in the U.S. State of West Virginia. The college building is in the downtown campus of the university. The college offers ten undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) programs and one Bachelor of Science in Economics program, seven master programs, and doctoral programs throughout its six departments.
