Any foreign national who wishes to enter Myanmar must obtain a visa unless they are a citizen of one of the designated visa-exempt countries.
All visitors to Myanmar must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months. [1] [2] [3]
Following the COVID-19 pandemic in Myanmar and the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état, the military junta in Myanmar, known as the State Administration Council, restarted visa-free entry into Myanmar on 1 September 2022. [3] [4]
Citizens of Singapore do not require a visa to enter Myanmar for both tourism and business visits for a maximum stay of 30 days. They may enter and leave Myanmar through any port of entry. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] |
Nationals of the following eight countries do not require a visa to enter Myanmar for tourism visits up to the duration listed below. [1] [3] However, to qualify for visa-free entry, they must enter and leave Myanmar through one of the following ports of entry: [1] [3]

From 1 October 2018 until 30 September 2020, tourists hailing from Hong Kong, Macao, Japan and South Korea were allowed entry into Myanmar without a visa. [9] [10] [11] They were permitted to enter by and depart from any port of entry in Myanmar. [2] [3]

From 30 August 2023 to 30 August 2024, nationals of China and India may obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at any international airport in Myanmar, for a fee of 50 USD. Visas obtained on arrival are valid for a maximum stay of 30 days. [29] |
Holders of normal passports issued by the following countries who were travelling as tourists were formerly able to obtain a visa on arrival at Yangon International Airport, Nay Pyi Taw International Airport or Mandalay International Airport valid for up to 30 days. [31] They would have to pay a fee of 50 USD to obtain the visa. [26] [27] [31] [32]
Myanmar launched an e-Visa system on 1 September 2014. E-Visas are issued online for tourism and business purposes only.
An e-Visa is issued within 3 working days, is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and allows a maximum stay of up to 28 days (for tourists) or 70 days (for business travellers with an invitation). The fee for a business e-Visa is 70 USD, while a tourist e-Visa costs 50 USD. [3] [33] Visas are issued free of charge to children under 7. [34]
The list of eligible countries was expanded twice, first in October 2014, then in January 2015. In July 2015, the business e-Visa was introduced.

The e-Visa system may be extended to other nationalities and ports of entry in the future and may include the issuance of other types of visas. [35]
A visa on arrival for business purposes is available for citizens from 52 countries / territories flying into Yangon International Airport, Naypyidaw Airport or Mandalay International Airport. They must fill in an application form and provide company registration and invitation documents. [31] [36] [37]
Myanmar Airways claims that nationals of all countries and jurisdictions may obtain a tourist visa on arrival valid for 28 days provided they are arriving at Yangon International Airport on a specific flight on Myanmar Airways International from Guangzhou, though this seems to conflict with the Myanmar Visa on Arrival requirements. [38]
In August 2017, an expansion of the visa on arrival system was announced. [39]
In October 2018, an expansion of the visa-free system was announced for early 2019. [40]

The visa policy of Australia deals with the requirements that a foreign national wishing to enter Australia must meet to obtain a visa, which is a permit to travel, to enter and remain in the country. A visa may also entitle the visa holder to other privileges, such as a right to work, study, etc. and may be subject to conditions.
Tourism in Myanmar is a developing sector. As at 2023, new tourist visa applications resume. Although Myanmar possesses tourist potential, much of the industry remains to be developed. The number of visitors to Burma is small compared to its neighbouring countries. This is primarily due to its political situation. However, after the junta transferred power to the civilian government, the tourism sector saw an increase in tourism arrivals, and in 2012, tourist arrivals surpassed the one million mark for the first time. In 2013, the Tourism Master Plan was created, targeting 7.5 million arrivals by 2020.
The Myanmar passport is the passport issued to citizens of Myanmar, formerly Burma, for the purpose of international travel.
Most visitors to Indonesia may obtain a visa on arrival to Indonesia, unless they are a citizen of one of the visa-exempt countries. However, some countries must obtain a visa in advance from one of the Indonesian diplomatic missions before being allowed to enter Indonesia.
Visitors to Mongolia must obtain a visa from one of the Mongolian diplomatic missions unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries, or citizens who may obtain a visa on arrival, or citizens eligible for an e-Visa.
Visa requirements for Indian citizens are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states placed on citizens of India.
Visa requirements for Chinese citizens are administrative entry restrictions imposed on citizens of China by the authorities of other states.
Visa requirements for Australian passport holders are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states placed on citizens of Australia entering with an Australian passport.
Visa requirements for Singapore citizens are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states which are imposed on citizens of Singapore.
As of 2024, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport passport holders have visa-free or visa on arrival access to 172 countries and territories, ranking the passport 19th in the world according to the Henley Passport Index.
Visa requirements for British Nationals (Overseas) are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states and territories placed on British National (Overseas) passport holders. Several million people, the vast majority with a Hong Kong connection, hold this passport.
The visa policy of Malaysia consists of the requirements for foreign nationals to travel to, enter, and remain in Malaysia. Most visitors to Malaysia are granted visa-free entry for a period of 90, 30, or 14 days respectively.
Visitors to Thailand must obtain a visa from one of the Thai diplomatic missions unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries, or citizens who may obtain a visa on arrival, or citizens eligible for an e-Visa.
Visitors to Vietnam must obtain either an e-Visa or a visa in advance, unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries.
Visitors to India must obtain a visa unless they come from one of the visa-exempt countries. Nationals of certain countries may obtain a visa on arrival or an e-Visa online, while others must obtain a visa from an Indian diplomatic mission.
Most visitors to Cambodia must obtain a visa, either on arrival or online, unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries.
Most visitors to Iran must obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa) prior to their arrival in Iran, unless they are a citizen of one of the visa-exempt countries or countries that are ineligible for an e-Visa, in which case they must obtain a visa in advance from one of the Iranian diplomatic missions around the world.
Visitors to Zambia must obtain a visa from one of the Zambian diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or countries whose citizens are eligible for visa on arrival. Visitors may alternatively obtain an electronic visa.
The visa policy of Nepal allows citizens of most countries to obtain either an Online tourist visa or an visa on arrival while citizens of India are allowed freedom of movement. However, citizens of certain other countries must obtain a visa from one of the Nepalese diplomatic missions.
Visitors to Egypt must obtain a visa from one of the Egyptian diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or countries that are eligible for visa on arrival.
From Dec 1, Singaporeans travelling to Myanmar for short trips will no longer need to apply for a visa.
