The 2009 Houston Dynamo season was the fourth season of existence for the Houston franchise since joining Major League Soccer (MLS) prior to the 2006 season. It was the team's fourth season with head coach Dominic Kinnear, majority owner Philip Anschultz, president Oliver Luck, and chief operating officer Chris Canetti.

Contents

The Dynamo qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year after finishing 2nd in the Western Conference during the regular season. In the playoffs, Houston defeated the Seattle Sounders FC 1–0 over two legs in the Conference Semifinals before losing 2–0 to the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Conference Final. In the U.S. Open Cup, the Dynamo reached the semifinals, where they lost 2–1 to the eventual champion Seattle Sounders. The Dynamo also competed in the CONCACAF Champions League, losing to Atlante 4–1 on aggregate in the quarterfinals of the 2008–09 Champions League while also finishing third in their group for the 2009–10 Champions League, failing to advance.

Houston Dynamo FC is an American professional soccer club based in Houston. The Dynamo compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Established on December 15, 2005, the club was founded after their former owners relocated the San Jose Earthquakes' players and staff to Houston following the 2005 season. For their first six seasons in Houston, the Dynamo were based at Robertson Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston. During the 2012 season, the club moved to Shell Energy Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium in East Downtown Houston.

Corey Alan Ashe is an American former professional soccer player. He played 10 seasons in Major League Soccer, mostly with the Houston Dynamo, but also with Orlando City SC and Columbus Crew SC. Originally a wide midfielder, Ashe moved to left back in 2011 and established himself as one of the best left backs in MLS, being named an MLS All-Star in 2011 and 2013. Ashe was considered one of the fastest players in MLS during his time in the league. While in Houston, he was part of the MLS Cup 2007 winning squad and helped the Dynamo reach two more finals in 2011 and 2012. His 266 career appearances for the Dynamo is the 3rd most in franchise history.

Talmon Henry "Tally" Hall V is an American retired soccer goalkeeper who spent eight of his ten professional seasons in Major League Soccer (MLS) with the Houston Dynamo (2009–2014), Orlando City (2015) and D.C. United (2016). He was a starter from 2011 to 2015 and helped the Dynamo reach MLS Cup in both 2011 and 2012. He was an MLS All-Star in 2011 and 2013. Since 2017, Hall has worked as a police officer for the Orlando Police Department.

The 2007 Houston Dynamo season was the second season of existence for the Houston franchise. The 2008 Houston Dynamo season was the third season of the existence for the Houston franchise. The Houston Dynamo were the defending back-to-back MLS Cup Champions, and sought to become the first club in Major League Soccer history to win three straight MLS Cups. It was the team's third season with head coach Dominic Kinnear, majority owner Philip Anschultz, president Oliver Luck, and chief operating officer Chris Canetti.

On June 10, team president Oliver Luck left the Dynamo to become athletic director for his alma mater, West Virginia University.

The Dynamo had been tied with Houston Hurricanes, who competed in the USISL D3 Pro League from 1996 to 2000. It was the Dynamo's sixth season with head coach Dominic Kinnear and majority owner Philip Anschultz. It was Chris Canettis first season as team president, having worked as chief operating officer for the previous five.

The 2015 Houston Dynamo season was the club's tenth season of existence, and their first under new head coach Owen Coyle.

The 2015 Austin Aztex season was the club's fourth season of existence. The club is now playing in the United Soccer League, the third tier of the American soccer pyramid. They were previously in the USL PDL the last 3 seasons, where they won the 2013 Championship, and the appeared in the Conference Finals in 2012 and 2014. The Austin Aztex will be competing in the Western conference and will be playing their first season in the newly dubbed USL. The season will begin March 21 and conclude on September 20.
