Khabarovsk is the largest city and the administrative centre of Khabarovsk Krai, Russia, located 30 kilometers (19 mi) from the China–Russia border, at the confluence of the Amur and Ussuri Rivers, about 800 kilometers (500 mi) north of Vladivostok. The Sakhalin–Khabarovsk–Vladivostok pipeline is a pipeline for natural gas in Russia, transporting Sakhalin's gas to the most populated and industrialized regions of the Russian Far East. It is also projected to become a part of an international export route, carrying Russian gas to East Asian countries, such as the People's Republic of China, South Korea and Japan. The pipeline is owned and operated by Gazprom. It was opened on 8 September 2011.

The Russian route R297 or the Amur Highway is a federal highway in Russia, part of the Trans-Siberian Highway. With a length of 2,100 km (1,300 mi), it is the longest segment, from Chita to Khabarovsk, connecting the paved roads of Siberia with those of the Russian Far East. The construction of the road united the Russian federal highways into a single system stretching from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok. Before completion of the road, the Russian Pacific coast was connected to the rest of the country only by airlines, the Trans-Siberian Railway, and the Baikal–Amur Mainline.

The Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences ( abbr. FEB RAS) is a regional branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is a developed geographically distributed system of complex research centers, institutes, stations, and research stations, reserves, covering almost the entire territory of the Far Eastern Federal District. The research centers of the FEB RAS are located in Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Magadan, Blagoveshchensk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Separate institutes operate in Birobidzhan, Anadyr. At the beginning of 2017, about 7,500 people worked in the Far Eastern Branch, among them 2,500 researchers, including 23 academicians and 141 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
