Tunisia is divided into 24 governorates (wilayat, sing. wilayah ). This term in Arabic can also be translated as province.
The governorates are divided into 264 delegations (mutamadiyat), and further subdivided into municipalities (baladiyat), [1] and sectors (imadats). [2] Tunisia is divided into 6 regions. [3] It is mostly temperate near the capital Tunis, but becomes more arid in the southern regions due to the Saharan Desert.

Tunis is the capital and largest city of Tunisia. The greater metropolitan area of Tunis, often referred to as "Grand Tunis", has about 2,700,000 inhabitants. As of 2020, it is the third-largest city in the Maghreb region and the eleventh-largest in the Arab world.
Sfax is a city in Tunisia, located 270 km (170 mi) southeast of Tunis. The city, founded in AD 849 on the ruins of Berber Taparura, is the capital of the Sfax Governorate, and a Mediterranean port. Sfax has a population of 330,440. Its main industries include phosphate, olive and nut processing, fishing and international trade. The city is the second-most populous in the country after the capital, Tunis.
Ariana Governorate is one of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia. It is in northern Tunisia, approximately triangular, having as one of its sides part of the Gulf of Tunis, it covers an area of 482 km² and has a population of 576,088. The capital is Ariana.
Bizerte Governorate is the northernmost of the 24 governorates of Tunisia. It is in northern Tunisia, approximately rectangular and having a long north coast. It covers an area of 3,750 km2 including two large lakes, one coastal hence saline and one freshwater being the World Heritage Site, Ichkeul lake. Its population was 568,219 as at the 2014 census. The capital is Bizerte which stands principally on inlet between Bizerte lake and the Mediterranean. The offshore Galite Islands are part of the governorate, as are the ruins of the ancient city of Utica.
Gafsa Governorate is one of the 24 governorates of Tunisia. It is situated in central Tunisia, bordering Algeria. It covers an area of 7807 km2 and has a population of 337,331. The capital of the city is Gafsa - ruled by Nader Hamdouni - whom all the heads of local municipalities report to.
Jendouba Governorate is one of the twenty-four governorates of Tunisia. It is predominantly in the high hills of the Tell Atlas north-western Tunisia, bordering Algeria and the Mediterranean Sea. It covers an area of 3,102 km2 and has a population of 401,477. The capital is Jendouba.
Manouba Governorate is one of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia and is in inland, northern Tunisia. It has a population of 379,518, and an area of 1,137 km2. The capital is Manouba.
Sousse Governorate is one of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia. It is beside the eastern coast of Tunisia in the north-east of the country and covers an area of 2,621 km2 and has a population of 674,971. The capital is Sousse.
Béja Governorate is one of the twenty-four governorates of Tunisia. It is in northern Tunisia and has a brief coastline relative to its size. It covers an area of 3,740 km² and had a population of 303,032 as at the 2014 census. The capital is Béja and it spans the moderately high Tell Atlas hills and part of the plain between the Tell Atlas and the Dorsal Atlas further south.
Ben Arous Governorate is one of the twenty-four governorates of Tunisia. It is in the north-east of Tunisia and adjoins smaller Tunis Governorate. It covers an area of 761 km² and had a population of 712,172 as at the 2019 census. The capital is Ben Arous.
Ben Arous is a city in north-eastern Tunisia, part the agglomeration of Tunis, also called "Grand Tunis". It is located south of Tunis city center and is the capital of the Ben Arous Governorate.
Gabès Governorate is one of the 24 governorates of Tunisia and in south-eastern Tunisia. It covers an area of 7166 km2 and had a population of 374,300 as at the 2014 census. The capital is Gabès.
Tataouine Governorate is the southernmost of the twenty-four governorates of Tunisia, the only one to border both Algeria and Libya. It is also the largest, covering an area of 38,889 km2. It had a population of 149,453, nearly tied for second least-populated with Kebili (156,961) after Tozeur (107,912). The capital is Tataouine.
Tunis Governorate is the smallest and most populated of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia. It covers an urban and suburban area on the Gulf of Tunis on the north-east coast covering 346 square kilometres (134 sq mi) and has a population of 1,056,247 with some agriculture and amenity land including parts of national parks. Its capital is that of the country, Tunis.
Zaghouan Governorate is one of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia and is in north-eastern Tunisia. It covers an area of 2,768 square kilometres (1,069 sq mi) and its population was 176,945 at the 2014 census. The capital is the town of Zaghouan.

Grombalia is a Tunisian city located in the Nabeul Governorate. At the 2014 census, its population was 24,336, while the population of the municipality was 67,475. It is the birthplace of former president Moncef Marzouki.

Den Den, is a town and commune in the Manouba Governorate, Tunisia, part of the western banlieue of Tunis. As of 2014 it had a population of 26,763. This population count includes both Den Den and the town of Ksar Saïd. Formerly mainly devoted to farming as located within the part of Tunisia suitable for market gardening, it has been progressively integrated in the Tunisian urban area. Within the city are located several palaces who belonged to the Beys of Tunis of the Husainid dynasty, they were used as winter residences. The most lavish one, the Zarrouk palace, named after minister Mohamed Larbi Zarrouk, is still in use for various entertainment purposes. A craft village aiming to promote Tunisian handicraft was also built in the commune by the National Office of Tunisian Handicrafts
Carthage is a commune in Tunis Governorate, Tunisia. It is named for, and includes in its area, the archaeological site of Carthage.
