EastEnders is a British television soap opera created by Julia Smith and Tony Holland which has been broadcast on BBC One since February 1985. Set in the fictional borough of Walford in the East End of London, the programme follows the stories of local residents and their families as they go about their daily lives. Within eight months of the show's original launch, it had reached the number one spot in BARB's television ratings, and has consistently remained among the top-rated series in Britain. Four EastEnders episodes are listed in the all-time top 10 most-watched programmes in the UK, including the number one spot, when over 30 million watched the 1986 Christmas Day episode. EastEnders has been important in the history of British television drama, tackling many subjects that are considered to be controversial or taboo in British culture, and portraying a social life previously unseen on UK mainstream television.

John Marcum Wells is an American producer, writer, and director. He is best known for his role as showrunner and executive producer of the television series ER, Third Watch, The West Wing, Southland, Shameless, Animal Kingdom, and American Woman, as well as the miniseries Maid and the upcoming series Rescue: HI-Surf. His company, John Wells Productions, is currently based at Warner Bros. studios in Burbank, California. Wells is also a labor leader, having served as president of the Writers Guild of America, West from 1999 to 2001 and from 2009 to 2011. Wells serves on the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF) Board of Governors. In 2011, he developed the series Shameless on Showtime, which ran for eleven seasons ending in 2021.

He is known for his role as Officer Doug Penhall in the Fox TV series 21 Jump Street and for directing and writing episodes of science fiction television shows, particularly in the Stargate franchise. David Avram Goodman is an American television writer and producer. He has been a writer for numerous television series, such as Family Guy, The Golden Girls, Futurama, and Star Trek: Enterprise. In film, Goodman produced Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, and wrote the 2010 comedy film Fred: The Movie, based on the Fred Figglehorn YouTube series, as well as its sequel, Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred. In 2022, he wrote the critically-acclaimed film Honor Society for Paramount+.
Sophie Stanton is an English actress, director and playwright. She is best known for her role as DCI Jill Marsden in the BBC soap opera EastEnders in which she has appeared on and off since 2001.
