Siaya County is one of the counties in the former Nyanza Province in western Kenya. It is bordered by Busia County to the north, Kakamega County, and Vihiga County to the northeast and Kisumu County to the southeast. It shares a water border with Homa Bay County which is located south of Siaya County. The total area of the county is approximately 2,496.1 km2. The county lies between latitude 0° 26' to 0° 18' north and longitude 33° 58' east and 34° 33' west. Siaya has been split up into six new districts. Under the 2010 Constitution, the role of the districts is still unclear as much of the administrative authority was transferred to the county. The capital is Siaya, although the largest town is Bondo.

In the 2007 elections the county, then district, had five constituencies: Alego Constituency, Gem Constituency, Rarieda Constituency, Bondo Constituency and Ugenya Constituency.
As of 2013, the county was made up of six constituencies namely Alego Usonga, Bondo, Gem, Rarieda, Ugenya, and Ugunja. [4]
At the 2007 parliamentary elections all five seats were won by Orange Democratic Movement.

James Aggrey Bob Orengo is a Kenyan lawyer, a well known human rights activist and politician who is the current governor for Siaya County. He is also one of the few Kenyan lawyers who have attained the professional grade of Senior counsel in the legal field, a title that he earned under former president Mwai Kibaki.
Kisumu County is one of 47 counties in the Republic of Kenya. Its borders follow those of the original Kisumu District, one of the former administrative districts of the former Nyanza Province in western Kenya. Its headquarters is Kisumu City which is the third largest city in Kenya after the capital Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa. It has a population of 1,155,574. The land area of Kisumu County totals 2085.9 km2.
Siaya is a municipality and the capital of Siaya County, Kenya. It is located 74 km (46 mi) northwest of Kisumu. The urban center had a population of 33,153 in 2019.
Nyamninia is a village in the Gem Location, Yala division of Siaya County, Kenya. Situated approximately 30 miles from Kisumu city, Nyamninia is home to the 100 kilowatts medium wave radio transmitters set up by Voice of Kenya (VoK); now renamed Kenya Broadcastic Corporation (KBC). It was the birthplace of the legendary Gem clan chief, Odera Kang'o who started a rice plantation scheme in the area about one hundred years ago. The Gem chief was responsible for construction the numerous schools in the region before his enforced exile in 1915, to Kampala, Uganda by the British colonialists.

Bondo is a Municipality in Siaya County of Kenya. It has traditionally been a fishing town and its entire economy rotates around the fish from Lake Victoria. It the largest and most populous town of the county. Located 64 kilometers West of Kisumu, Bondo was established in the early 1920s as a market centre. In the 1990s, it became the headquarters of Bondo district which was carved out of the larger Siaya District.
Nyang'oma Kogelo, also known as Kogelo, is a village in Siaya County, Kenya. It is located near the equator, 60 kilometres (37 mi) west-northwest of Kisumu, the provincial capital of the former Nyanza province. The population of Nyangoma-Kogelo is 3,648.
Eng. Nicolas Gumbo WAJONYA is a Kenyan politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Rarieda Constituency from 2007 to 2017 where he broke the one term jinx and remains the only Rarieda member of parliament to do so. Ugenya Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya, established for the 1963 elections. It is one of six constituencies of Siaya County. based on the 2019 census report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), Ugenya is home to 134,354 people. The first Professor from Ugenya was Prof. Henry Odera Oruka. It is also home to Kenyan most famous senior council and the incumbent governor of Siaya County Bob James Orengo.
Maugo is a small village in Ugenya Constituency, in Western side of Siaya County in Nyanza Province in the Republic of Kenya. The name Maugo means Tsetse fly in Dholuo. The area was a fertile breeding ground for tsetse flies in the past and these can still be spotted in Maugo.

Nyagondo is a small market centre in Gem Constituency, Siaya County, in the Republic of Kenya. It is located along the Kisumu Siaya tarmac road, approximately 70 kilometres to the west of Kisumu town and 17 kilometres to the east of Siaya town. The people of Nyagondo are members of the Luo community and speak the Dholuo language.
Sub-counties, also known as Districts, are the decentralised units through which government of Kenya provides functions and services. At national level, sub-counties take a more administrative function like security, statistical purposes, provision of government services, etc. Even though the sub-counties are divisions of counties, powers to create new national sub-counties lies with the national government. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) is a public university in Bondo in Siaya County, Kenya. It is named after Kenya's first vice-president Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Ruth Busia Adhiambo Odinga is a Kenyan politician and the women's representative for Kisumu County in the National Assembly. She is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). She is the daughter to Jaramogi Odinga, the first vice president of Kenya, and the sister of both former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Oburu Odinga, the serving Senator for Siaya County.
