The series tended to feature single dramas with a science fiction, supernatural and occasionally satirical theme. It was created by Anna Home, then head of children's and youth programming at TVS, however the dramas themselves were produced by a total of twelve ITV regional companies. Thus, each episode was in practice a one-off production with its own cast and crew, up to and including the executive producer.

Chris Paul Carter is an American, Los Angeles-based disc jockey and music/film producer, who started his music career as a founding member and bass player with alternative rock/power pop band Dramarama. After Dramarama originally split in 1994, Carter formed QM Management to manage LA pop group The Wondermints, currently best known as Beach Boy Brian Wilson's touring backing band. Until September 2006, KLSX aired Carter's Breakfast with the Beatles, America's longest-running Beatles-based radio show, on which he played almost nothing but Beatles material and commented upon the history of the group for as long as four hours every week. Mark Englert is an American musician known as a guitarist for Dramarama since 1982. He has appeared with Dramarama on Late Night with David Letterman and The Tonight Show. He has worked with a number of established musicians including Benmont Tench from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, and Clem Burke of Blondie. Mark a.k.a. "Mr. E. Boy", was a founding member of Hatful of Rain, a defunct band established in Portland, Oregon during the mid-1990s, which featured singer/songwriter John Lowery and at one time included Courtney Taylor-Taylor of The Dandy Warhols on drums. The band went on to receive stellar reviews from critics around the globe, but failed commercially due to their short term run of just a few months prior to their break-up. Mark has been known to play guitar for many underground artists and has recently put out a few of his own solo records on his own label Phat Boris Records.
ITV Playhouse is a British television anthology series that ran from 1967 to 1983, which featured contributions from playwrights such as Dennis Potter, Rhys Adrian and Alan Sharp. The series began in black and white, but was later shot in colour and was produced by various companies for the ITV network, a format that would inspire Dramarama. The series would mostly include original material from writers, but adaptations of existing works were also produced.
Morley Bartnoff born in 1959, is a Los Angeles, California-born keyboardist, guitarist, songwriter, and composer who has been performing and recording for the past 30 years. Formerly with the Los Angeles rock band Burning Sensations, Morley now leads alternative rock band Cosmo Topper, and whenever possible serves as the “secret weapon” on keyboards for Dramarama, an enduring power pop band best known for its hits "Anything, Anything " and "Last Cigarette". For the last few years Morley has been playing keys for the reunited group Dramarama and will be featured on the New Dramarama recording, playing Baby Grand Piano and a Hammond B 3, with a Leslie to be released in 2011. His talents have also appeared on their previous 2005 CD, Everybody Dies.

The stories focus on a blind man, a pregnant girl, the driver of a hearse, two recently engaged lovers and a rock band. The film was produced by Zik Zak Filmworks with support from the Icelandic Film Fund.
