The 11th Signal and West Midlands Brigade was a signal formation of the British Army's 3rd UK Division. [1] By November 2024, it had been disbanded, with its sub-units resubordinated.
The brigade was formed as 11th Signal Group in Liverpool in 1967. It became 11th Signal Brigade in 1982 and was redesignated 11th (ARRC) Signal Brigade in 1992 and reverted to 11th Signal Brigade in 1997. [2] In November 2014, in accordance with the Army 2020 reorganisation, 11th Signal Brigade amalgamated with 143 (West Midlands) Brigade to create a new formation, based at Venning Barracks in Donnington, named 11th Signal and West Midlands Brigade, with an additional role as a regional brigade for army regular and reserve units in the West Midlands counties. A formation parade took place at Donnington on 15 November 2014. [3]
One of the brigade's responsibilities, as Regional Point of Command West Midlands, was to provide administrative support for around 8,000 Army personnel who were based in the West Midlands region, as well as forming a vital link between the Army and its local communities. [4] The brigade had five Regular Army signal regiments and five Army Reserve signal regiments. [5] In addition, it has command responsibilities for the Army Cadet Forces and some of the Army Reserve units in the region. [4]

The Royal Corps of Signals is one of the combat support arms of the British Army. Signals units are among the first into action, providing the battlefield communications and information systems essential to all operations. Royal Signals units provide the full telecommunications infrastructure for the Army wherever they operate in the world. The Corps has its own engineers, logistics experts and systems operators to run radio and area networks in the field. It is responsible for installing, maintaining and operating all types of telecommunications equipment and information systems, providing command support to commanders and their headquarters, and conducting electronic warfare against enemy communications.
The 20th Armoured Brigade Combat Team, previously the 20th Armoured Infantry Brigade, is an armoured infantry brigade formation of the British Army, currently headquartered at Wing Barracks, Bulford, Wiltshire, as part of the 3rd Division.
The 11th Security Force Assistance Brigade is a brigade of the British Army which is intended to train and assist foreign forces. In 2021, under the Future Army changes, the brigade was redesignated, formerly being the 11th Infantry Brigade & HQ South East. The brigade was first formed following the reorganisation of the old Territorial Army in 1967, and was disbanded in 2012 under the Army 2020 programme. However, later the 2nd Signal Group was formed continuing the lineage of the old brigade, before it was disbanded in 2018.
The 1st Signal Brigade, formerly known as the 1st Signal Group, is a brigade of the British Army. The group was first formed in 1968 as a result of the 1966 Defence White Paper which expanded support for NATO and the British Army of the Rhine. In 1987, the group was disbanded and merged into the 2nd Signal Brigade. In 1995, the brigade was reformed and has since deployed on operations across the globe in support of NATO and HQ Allied Rapid Reaction Corps.
MOD Donnington is a Ministry of Defence site that consists of a British Army barracks and the Defence Fulfilment Centre, and is situated to the north of Donnington, Telford, Shropshire. The barracks on the site will close in 2029.
The 1st Artillery Brigade was a support formation of the British Army from 1961-77 and from 1997. Part of the 3rd Division, it oversaw all army close support artillery and deep fires units. Under the Future Soldier programme, the brigade merged with 1st Armoured Infantry Brigade to form 1st Deep Reconnaissance Strike Brigade Combat Team.

The Cyber and Electro Magnetic Activities Effects Group is a combat support formation of the British Army formed in 2024. The group brings together three specialist regiments of the Royal Corps of Signals under Commander Field Army.
Headquarters West Midlands was a regional point of command based in West Midlands of England. The command administered the reserve units based in its area and also provided the military support HQ for the police and civilian population in the area.
