The 15th Moscow International Film Festival was held from 6 to 17 July 1987. [1] The Golden Prize was awarded to the Italian film Intervista directed by Federico Fellini.

8+12 is a 1963 comedy-drama film directed and co-written by Federico Fellini. The metafictional narrative centers on Guido Anselmi, a famous Italian film director who suffers from stifled creativity as he attempts to direct an epic science fiction film. Claudia Cardinale, Anouk Aimée, Sandra Milo, Rossella Falk, Barbara Steele, and Eddra Gale portray the various women in Guido's life. The film was shot in black and white by cinematographer Gianni Di Venanzo and features a score by Nino Rota, with costume and set designs by Piero Gherardi.

In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIAPF paused the accreditation of the festival until further notice.

Feliks Falk ps. Robert F. Lane, Edward Neyman is a Polish film and theater director as well as writer of film scripts, stage plays, television plays, and radio shows. A 1966 graduate of Warsaw's Academy of Fine Arts, he also is a painter and graphic artist. Falk is one of creators of the 1970s wave of Polish cinematography, called Cinema of Moral Anxiety. The Palme d'Or went to the Sous le soleil de Satan by Maurice Pialat, a choice which was considered "highly controversial" and the prize was given under the jeers of the public. The Golden Prizes were awarded to the Polish film The Promised Land directed by Andrzej Wajda, the Soviet-Japanese film Dersu Uzala directed by Akira Kurosawa and the Italian film We All Loved Each Other So Much directed by Ettore Scola.

Souheil Ben-Barka is a Moroccan film director, screenwriter and film producer. He directed seven films between 1974 and 2002. His 1975 film La guerre du pétrole n'aura pas lieu was entered into the 9th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1983 film Amok won the Golden Prize at the 13th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1987 he was a member of the jury at the 15th Moscow International Film Festival.

The 10th Moscow International Film Festival was held 7-21 July 1977. The Golden Prizes were awarded to the Hungarian film The Fifth Seal directed by Zoltán Fábri, the Spanish film El puente directed by Juan Antonio Bardem and the Soviet film Mimino directed by Georgiy Daneliya.

The 12th Moscow International Film Festival was held from 7 to 21 July 1981. The Golden Prizes were awarded to the Brazilian film O Homem que Virou Suco directed by João Batista de Andrade, the Vietnamese film The Abandoned Field: Free Fire Zone directed by Nguyễn Hồng Sến and the Soviet-French-Swiss film Teheran 43 directed by Aleksandr Alov and Vladimir Naumov.

Hero of the Year is a 1987 Polish drama film directed by Feliks Falk. It was entered into the 15th Moscow International Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and a Special Prize. The film was selected as the Polish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 60th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
